Title: Mungo NP & Menindee Lakes Firewood
Post by: MDS69 on September 11, 2015, 11:17:54 AM
Hi Swaggers,
We are heading to the above locations (amongst other places) via Hay next week and was wondering where firewood can be purchased or alternatively has anyone been recently is there enough roadside collection to be had, outside the NP of course.
I was reading stories on the www that firewood was sold at the Mungo NP visitors centre but after speaking to the lovely lass from NSWNP this morning that is no longer correct.

Another option that I use as a back up is Woolworths sell 4kg bags of heat beads for about $4 a bag. They're easy to store a few bags on the back floor or in the CT drawers and if you have a brazier or folding fire pit, throw out a good heat etc

Around Menindee lakes and Kinchega you can collect any dead wood not sure about the National Parks I've been to Menindee dozens of times never had to buy wood.

Hi
a few hundred metres from Mungo (main) campground is outside the nat park. So you can collect firewood (probably need to take car out to collect). Plenty lying on the ground from farmworks when i was there in July.
extremely hard wood though so take a good saw as there wasnt many small pieces left.
it does burn extremely well.
cheers Andrew
