G'day guys, my name is Ben.
I joined this forum as it appears to have a great wealth of info about getting the most out of your camping/caravanning setup. Plus touring tips and ideas.
My wife and I are in the early stages of planning a 'big north trip' either next year (2016) or the following year.
We have two kids 3 and 1 who will be in tow.
I am looking to take off at least 6 months (Maybe 9 months) to travel from NSW to Broome (via Tanami), Kimberly, NT, across to FNQ and back home.
While we are keen to depart around April next year we think that maybe delaying a year is a good move, the kids then being 4 and 2 in 2017 I think will get more out of it. Plus it gives us a year to take them weekend camping and get used to the 'accommodation'. We waterski most weekends in summer and could use a camper to camp by the water rather than drive up and back to the dam in a day.
So anyway, having looked at standard style budget caravans alongside camper trailers we are leaning towards purchasing a quality hardfloor camper. We also like the look of some of the hybrid style campers but they are a little out of our budget. (Hoping to get something for no more than $50k)
We were fortunate to get to visit the Mountain Trail factory a few weeks ago and check out their EDX, Nick was fantastic and showed us through the varying stages of construction. They are a very nice piece of gear but unfortunately for us once specced up we would be spending close to $60k.
We will be checking out Kimberly Kampers at the up-coming Henty field days next month but we are open to considering other brands.
Sorry for the rambling post, but looking forward to dipping the toes into the world of camper trailers :) :)

Cheers everyone.
I really want to find a camper before summer kicks in proper. There are some great skiing spots on the Murray less than 2 hours drive from us but we usually go up and back in a day as setting up a tent and all the other paraphernalia is just too hard with the little ones.

Welcome Ben and good luck with your search for a camper trailer. Don't forget to post some photo's when you get it.

Good to see you on MySwag Ben. Perhaps you can lobby the various governments to allow putting the Wakesetter behind the camper as they do in South Africa and some U.S. States :) The Y62's up for it!

Yeah that would be awesome :) :)
In the meantime we will have to borrow my inlaws Jeep to get the camper to the river :) :)

If you are in the Riverina go to see the guys at Outdoors and Beyond Wagga, look at their Predator range, we have just done 11,500 klms with one and not a drama, Gibb River Road, Tanami and every other corrugated and dirt road there was out there. Ask for Ryan. Great guy.

Welcome and enjoy the ride and the wealth of information. For the amount you want to spend and the time you have before you leave, keep long you will find something very good for that money.
If your around Sydney in April next year take a trip to the super caravan and camping show at Rosehill racecourse, a huge amount of campers and vans on display.

Welcome Ben.
I did a lot of searching and definitely found this forum to be by far the most helpful. Some of the camper trailer builds and mods performed by some of the guys (and gals) on this forum are just unbelievable. Enjoy the CT search because I found that to be just as much fun as buying the CT itself and once you get it a whole new world seems to open up with just not enough weekends and holidays to do all the things and see all the things that you can.

Gidday Ben
Check out my links in my introduction post. Around your money for a fully optioned hybrid (bed configuration will need some sorting but Ben is a very helpful chap).
Cheers
