Title: Snarky PM's
Post by: The punter on August 06, 2015, 07:14:18 PM
Today I got a snarky schoolyard grade private message

Is it a regular thing here? I guess some prefer to be childish in private?

Make it public.................if that is what you want.

I only ever once got a PM which was snarky in all of my forum careeer. And it was from a QLD Jeep driver who was ax ex Hwy Patrol cop. So I should've expected it.

Only pm's I've ever received have been friendly. Without knowing the topic, there has been here recent robust conversations that it was suggested should be done in private, so the sender may have just been respecting that request. You could:
1-just ignore the post, this is often best response, although the sender will now know from this thread that they've hit the mark.
2- send them back a hug n kiss. This can often frustrate the sender.
3-start a game of post tennis and send one back saying ** **** ********.

I would say report it and let the mods deal with it.......coming from an ex-mod of another forum

In saying that you do push pretty hard in some threads (a dog with a bone comes to mind), I reckon I could take a punt at the subject of the PM

Yeah I have done, but I've not hurled personal insults either. I have reported it, just curious as to if it's a "thing" here

EDIT: "Punt" - I saw what you did there lol  >:D

LOL,  yes had a chuckle, it's unusual for me to find a play on words.

I'm on three forums, over ten years I haven't copped a bad PM. I have had to step in and moderate from time to time, I would say it's a regular thing.

Um, isn't the whole idea of a Private Message based upon it being Private between the two people involved.  Think it would be pretty poor form to make the PM public.

I have often seen the mods here say to take a discussion off line.  Why then bring it back on line?

What is going on with this forum, I think more camping is needed everyone seems to have the s$&ts up at the moment. Pm should be kept private and is there is an issue let the mods deal with it

Some of the PMs I get are useful, the rest are from scarps....!!

Agree with swannie, time for the weather to warm up and get the campers out.

Let me make this EXTREMELY CLEAR..
Publishing a PM is NOT acceptable.

As some have mentioned reporting the PM to the admins is the appropriate thing to do.

The ADMINS and MODERATORS have been copping it lately and I don't know why there is such a stir lately, but personally I'm getting sick of reading the reported posts and PMs.

Everybody play nice..

Let me say this, the last time a person posted a PM, and some other nasty stuff they were banned from the forum. It's pretty simple.

Welcome to my world :)

I used to get them all the time, but with certain people taking permanent breaks from the forum it has died down.

As has been said before either report it, or just ignore them.

Its funny, every year around this time a similar uncampingness creeps into the forum. We are all stuck inside just waiting for the rain and chills to stop to allow us to get out and about to enjoy the outdoors.

I suggest that on the weekend you go down and open up your camper, swag, caravan, ute back or just the garage and remember what its all about. I for one will be getting the swags out this weekend ready for a trip away with my son on the Murray river for a night in just over a week. I might even drop up to Evo's show to get the camper itch back again.

If you cant do that go into the trip section and have a bit of a search for your next adventure. I am going away in around 6 weeks and the next trip is still in planning.

MySwag is a great resource of mates, information and camping and outdoors expertise.

May I ask why?
If some parasite is abusing/ripping off/etc respected members I say ringholes to em.

Everyone should know what sort of flog they are.

If some parasite is abusing/ripping off/etc respected members I say ringholes to em.

Everyone should know what sort of flog they are.

one reason for not publishing PM's might be that members would potentially only hear one side of the story... (and who decides who a 'respected member' is?  post count?)

just because two members are not 'besties', doesn't mean to say that their dirty laundry should be aired for everyone to see...

if the messages are threatening or outright abusive, then the receiver has the opportunity to block those PM's and report the sender to the moderators.

if one member has a problem with another member, then the PM system is the right way for them to air their grievances in a private/personal manner...

Bird,

It is NOT ACCEPTABLE to post another user's PM without their approval. Technically you could also get sued for it!

If a user is sending PM's like that then the mod/admin team need to know about it ASAP and lets just say the tolerance associated with this would mean the member has his account deleted! Therefore no more PM's.. and no more access to MYSWAG..

I had some of my content posted by a said offending person as some would know, now i have NO issue with what was said to him, however he also CHANGED the content of the PM (which i still had no problems) before he posted it publicly.

So once again, if you get a member that is being abusive or just breaking the rules then report them.! It's simple and will be dealt with by the mod team..

Snarky PM's are just like school girls arguing on Facebook. It's childish behaviour.

Next MySwag meet should be at one of these events.

Indeed...

My reply started with "Seriously? What are you 12?"

I was never going to post it, the message started out with personal insults and I've reported it.

I love a "robust" discussion, as it usually creates more discusssion. That's what forums are for. People that dive straight into personal insults are usually just frustrated at their lack of ability to articulate a point.

I've bowed out of the offending thread, as I have had more than my say there.

People are funny.... this is why i don't like caravan parks, there is always one who carries on.

Well said.
We actually prefer winter camping as you can have bigger fires and there is a lot less people around.
Now we have our little farm we love winter. Privacy, endless firewood and a permanent campsite.
People in the country towns also seem to be a lot friendlier in winter for some reason.... I have no idea why, but the locals always seem to have more customers and shops are friendlier.

Go on get out in winter, don't let the cold hold you back, buy some thermals and crank that fire.....
