G'day folks,
I have finally convinced my better half upgrade from a borrowed tent. I was happy with a ct, however was easily convinced when my wife wanted to go straight to a campervan. We got a 2006 jayco swan. Pretty pumped and picking it up next week. Needless to say I've been researching for a while, and thought it was time to join you lot.
Cheers and keep up the great contributions.

Thanks everyone. We are hopefully picking the van up tonight or tomorrow. Fingers crossed. It's getting a new winding mechanism fitted before we pick it up, and so far we have been waiting 3 weeks for jayco to get off their backsides and supply the parts.... Needless to say I am itching at the bit to get it into my driveway to start playing with it. The kids already want to camp out in it on the weekend.
Bird, sorry mate but a born and bread melbournite.
B1, thanks for the link, although some of those mods are probably a bit beyond my abilities.
One step at a time I think.
Cheers

Hi Jmack, congrats on the Jayco, they are a great bit of gear and very easy to work on and upgrade. We cannot use ours enough.
Looking forward to seeing the photos when you collect it.
Cheers Dan

Picked up the van yesterday. Safe to say it needs a little love. Bit of damp and some mould into some canvas, and the mattresses are stuffed.
After some advice on a few of items:
First, does anyone know where I could get some innerspring mattresses for the bed ends in Melbourne. I am guessing they need to be custom made so they are thin enough to fit in the camper.
Second issue, every time I hook it up to the car it blows the fuse on the tail light relay in the car. Is this an issue with the camper, or maybe a dud relay in the car (2014 subaru forester).
Third, any advice on getting the mould out of the canvas?
Nothing like a new project to sink me teeth into.
Cheers

Hey Jonno, let the games begin ;D ;D ;D
I've heard some folks use vinegar, and other use lemon juice for mould on the canvas - both watered down. Chemical cleaners would most likely breakdown the water resistance of the canvas.

Exciting look forward to some pix of your trips happy and safe travels

Thers a mod in Campbellfield that make innerspring for CTs , & they are really good

Hi folks,
Finally thought I'd post a pic of the van. Been kicking a few goals. Got the tail and riding lights sorted. Seems they were wired backwards... Who knew hey. Still going to replace with LED's at some stage. Anyone know much about the lights from bright lights in Melbourne?
Seems vinegar is the go for the canvas mould. Going to give it a crack this weekend and see how we go. Might give bicarb soda a try if vinegar is a no go. Definitely keen to go with natural alternatives rather than harsh (and expensive) chemicals.
My other half is busily looking into options for fancying the interior up. That's her thing so I'll let her go at it...
Anyway, getting a bit toey for a night away camping now. Glad to have the lights sorted. New mattresses and we are good to go.
Cheers

Enjoy mate, looks good.

These things are quite good though you go through a fair few. http://www.productreview.com.au/p/magic-eraser-hard-surface-cleaner.html (http://www.productreview.com.au/p/magic-eraser-hard-surface-cleaner.html)
Not sure how they would go on canvas but I used them to clean up old PC cases and they worked brilliantly.
Good luck with your new van

Hi all. Its been a while, but we just got back from the maiden voyage... down to wilsons prom for the weekend. Bloody excellent and lots of little bits and pieces to sort out over time. Heading to lorne over the cup weekend, and bellarine peninsula the week after, so no doubt will iron out any more kinks. Even my wife is now getting excited about camping, so a huge win there (may have something to do with liberal supplies of cold wine...).

By the way, anyone know where i can get replacement poles for the awning. The van came with none. Have replaced the upright poles, but dont have any ridge/roof support poles.
