Title: Newbie
Post by: Miranda on July 07, 2015, 11:19:21 AM
Hi, sorry to be yet another green newbie.  Our family enjoy a regular camping trip for a couple of weeks each year in a tent, but have gone through about 4 tents trying to find the most suitable style and have decided a camper trailer might be our next option.  We are wanting to purchase a 2nd hand camper trailer for this trip and to add at least one other trip each year.  We are a family of 4.
Can anyone help me out with important points to look for in a camper trailer?
Any really handy optional extras?
Could I set it up/pack it away myself (capable female) or is it a 2 man job?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks, Miranda.

Hi Miranda,
Welcome to My Swag.
Suggest you look at the ease of set up as the first priority & also look at lots of camper trailers to get an idea of the features & fit outs that you think will benefit your camping experience.

Great to have your company here Miranda
A nice kitchen area is handy with the kids. Good quality canvas. Most Trailers you can pack yourself. Some handy setup and pack up Video's on you tube.
Keep an eye on the classifieds here too for some bargains

Main thing is good trailer and good tent. Don't sacrifice these in for flashy add-ons.

If you can, try to hire a camper in your area.  That will give you a good idea of features you love and hate.  For example,  when we hired a soft floor we discovered that needing to pull out the gas bottle to connect to the kitchen was a major nuisance, but that hard floors don't really have a lot of storage space.

Oh, and check out the caravan and camping shows in your area.   Also, the sneaky thing is to visit your local caravan park and offer free beer to anyone with the kind of rig you might be interested in. After a few beers they will tell you what they hate...
