Hi All,
After some advice on our possible fridge purchases for our tray back camp setup, My wife and i are in the planning stages of our Big Lap and are about to start getting serious with customizing our tray back ready for a extended time traveling, we have been researching fridges/freezers and have come up with 2 possible setups and are wondering what advice you guys could give to swing us one way our the other.
We have decided that Waeco is the go but cant decide between Options
Option 1 - Waeco CFX 80lt Dual Fridge Freezer or Option 2 - Waeco CFX50 ( standalone fridge only) & CFX35 ( Standalone Freezer only)
For about $2400 we can get either option together with our Rooftop Tent as our first purchases and am wondering if anyone had any experiences with either setups.
Also is there gonna be any major expenses with either setup in regards to powering them - dual batteries, solar panels ect ect
We where looking at possibly running Option 2 with each unit being setup to run off their own 120 a/h battery, solar panel and not run in parallel

Mate go the two separate options, I personally am not a fan of the Dual zones as they use the same evaporator plate and are not a Genuine Dual zone so to speak, Although I believe there may be a couple of other manufacturers that do a genuine Dual zone unit.. with dual temp control etc..
Also The advantage of the two separate units is if one sh!ts itself you have a backup fridge..Just my opinion...

i use the cf80dz and love it too death.
my problem is the wife wants to take too much maybe 2 fridges would solve that
imo i dont think hooking 1 fridge per battery would be of any benefit. and would think you would get more out of the system hooking up in parallel to maximise the amp hours.
if your running a dual battery setup and solar, i would guess that the batteries would last 2-3 days with no solar 3-5+ with
so the question how long will you stay in one location
my thoughts on most big $$ products is buy the one that you know you can get parts for easy
i have seen this fridge come up a few time and looks the goods, i like the dual compartments and the tubes go right around the compartments not just at one end
just to throw another fridge option in the basket

have the unit that does both, it does, your ****ed. been there done that.

Agree with that, too.
Do you really need a freezer? They chew heaps of juice.
Cryovacing works really well, and butchers will do it for you.

I've been looking at this option too and have come to the conclusion to use one as freezer and one as fridge. Also gives me scope to use 40 ltr for short trips i.e just the ute and 80ltr for longer ones when I take the camper.

Easy, option 2 gives heaps more options and positives and no real negatives if cost is same.
You could setup to run batteries switchable between together or separate, but battery use would not be equal if running separate.
I use 2 fridges, 60l single zone in ct and 92l dual compartment one in tug, gives me heaps of options.
We also cryovac and it is good, but having the freezer means changing meal plans is no issue and you can also carry some luxuries not available without a freezer, ice cream mmmmmmm, ice for drinks, etc. Not a need but a want, cooking and eating, to me is one of the fun things of camping.

Two is better than one, it gives you some redundancy.
Who's offering this deal? Two fridge and or freezers plus a roof top tent for $2400 is cheap.

Thanks heaps for the reassurance guys, was definitely leaning towards 2 units
Interesting fridge you linked as well Green RV will have to do a little more research on them before deciding what units to go with....
