Hi everyone,
I am looking at fitting draws into my camper trailer. Has anyone done this and did you make your own or did you buy them already made?
Any pics would be great.
Thanks.

Like as in big long ones all the way up the tub?
Like these ones;

If so these are fantastic.
There is not a real lot of $$ to be saved making them yourself but if you are handy go for it. I would use marine ply, a kreg pocket jig and gorilla glue.
Plastic stuff for the runners. (Whitworths have blue boat slippery runners or use the plastic polymer stuff used in chopping boards. They come in 2400 x 1200 sheets so you would need two strips 50mm wide off the sheet.
Forget bearings or drawer slides.
If its some other type of drawer sorry to waste your time :'( :D

In my Trackabout I have the long Drifta storage box with double drawers at the end which make for great storage and easy access for food from the rear of the trailer. They are well built and I have had no issues. Can't recall the price but don't recall it being overly expensive.
The box I have is on the left in the first photo in the link below. I only have the drawers not the other kitchen bits in the photo.

I looked at the drifts draws yesterday. What I would like is to have draws that go far enough back to allow me to close the tail gate which has my kitchen attached. I do like the look of the drifts set up with the two draws as I can see how useful that would be.
Thanks for the replies.

This is a sliding box/draw system that I built for my Trckabout, it is pushed into the trailer and locks away before closing the kitchen unit.

Hey Greg,
Doing the same thing in my camper trailer (1 drawer to sit behind the tailgate kitchen) at the mo and have so far gotten tons of info off myswaggers, so you're in a good place.
I tossed up between DIY and buying Drifta initially and comparing cost VS quality but decided given that I've been doing mods on my kitchen already and had the wood (and my woodworking skills weren't too bad), I could do it myself.
dg3754 has done his own which I quite like and will use as a starting point for mine. He goes into a bit of detail in post 19 and then later on in post 45 (answering my question re: more details). He also has the double draws at the front which I will definitely be doing.

I've also did a google search on 'homemade ply drawers' and variations of that. Great thing about doing it in google search, you can see all the pics and if it's what you like, then click on the pic to go the the website etc. Found some awesome DIY jobs across a whole bunch of different forums this way.
Regarding how I'm going to do mine - I will use a mix of 9, 12 and 15 marine ply with 2 drawers at the front which will house the camp oven and an additional pantry box (and various other junk in the back :)). I have a lip on my tailgate kitchen so an easy slide out won't work, so instead sussing ideas of creating a ramp or something similar between the trailer floor and kitchen above to make it rise nicely. Not decided on sliders yet - either blue boat runners from whitfords or bcf.
Good luck!

Marine ply is way overkill, when is it going to get wet?
Just go for external ply, stain and varnish.
Half the cost.

I used drifta..sent them my measurements and they built them and delivered to my door.
They were mm perfect and very well built and only $80 more than I priced the materials and my time and they added a saleable feature rather than the home-made look.
Jet ;D ;D

I called drifta today and they were very helpful. I think that for the time and effort I will go with their two pantry set up. They will push back up far enough so that the tail gate will close and as jet crew said will make them to my measurements.
Thanks again for the info.

Greg I have a metal kitchen box attached to the tailgate and drifta made the drawers to accommodate this. You simply slide the box forward when the tailgate is open for easy access to the drawers.
