The ride is so rough, you want to hope you are in the military and getting paid to be in it  8)

With the amount of unsupported overhang behind the rear axle I would be wary of "Pheasant Tail" syndrome if putting a load on the tray & towing a middle weight or heavier trailer. I would assume that the chassis rails are a bit beefier than a Hilux though or, at least, you'd hope so!

went to 2 dealers yesterday trying to buy one, they are doing a $4K discount on them at the moment. Got a mate who got a new one for much less then that price, the dealers didn't like my price yesterday but we'll play their game for the next week or so now. They were happy to try and sell me one for about $69K, but they still have some pencil sharpening to do to get a sale from me.

i have the paper work from a mate that bought one much cheaper then that new (thousands cheaper actually), no tray though and the cheapest Toyota tray is $1400. Was purchased last November but they had a price rise after that apparently, so yes you can get them at that price if you haggle hard enough. Several dealers were happy to sell at the price he paid for his in the end actually.

I wouldn't put a 1800 long tray on one for that very reason myself, I'll look at doing a shortened custom canopy on mine if I end up purchasing one.

Bastards  were not giving away much at all when I purchased mine early in the year.

You could buy the work mate at around 67 g with nothing on it.

But IMO the GXL offers better value with the diff locks and central locking, alloy wheels and tyres   (That I traded in for really good money).

It was the bull bar, side rails and steps, tow bar, cruise control, good quality tray, 3" exhaust that added up to a fair amount.
And the list just keeps getting longer.

But I must admit that I enjoy this bus more than any other that I have owned before.

I have a temporary 1580mm tray on mine at the moment, and it definately looks better length wise than the Shitty 1800mm toyota trays.

IMO a a lot of the trays on the market start to far back from behind the back window.

I have seen a couple of custom tray setups that are more forward , probably gaining 80mm.

I had a look at one with a 2m tray on it the other day, it was a bent chassis waiting to happen.
I asked the bloke that owned it how he went hooking a trailer up behind it. He then produced the longest tow ball hitch that I have ever seen and plugged that into the back.
It was just wrong, anything more than a half loaded 6x4  trailer would be asking for trouble.

I thought the OP had done their research and provided good web link and pics to support..........
But agree, while this forum allows for good feedback and chatter, always good to reference one's thoughts if possible

As you have mate :cup: :cup: for you too. Certainly wasn't indicating that you hadn't done your research, just interesting to read the thoughts and figures of someone in the market getting current info.

Cheers,

i have no idea what I'll eventually end up paying to get mine as we don't know how much the price rise at end of last year was, I just know this person got his for under mid $60K onroad drive away (cab chassis no tray, GXL in white.)
