Title: CT builders - what would you change?
Post by: Jimmy01 on June 12, 2015, 07:52:48 PM
-not sure if this should go here or in the camper trailer build thread, but to all  those who have built their own CT, what would you change, and what are you glad that you did when building your trailer?

Hi Jimmy, welcome to the (forum) jungle.

Next build I will be double hot dip galvanizing the chassis instead of painting it and fitting much better mud flaps at the front of the CT (as well as the car) in an effort to halt or at least reduce the damage from stones, dirt and grit. On the last Cape trip, the trailer came back looking like it had been professionally sandblasted. Everything and anything forward facing was stripped bare  >:(  >:(  >:(

Also think about using materials and construction methods that reduce weight without reducing strength. Even if they cost a bit more, the investment is worth it!!

  avo

I built my first trailer 10 years ago and its just about worn out. I was thinking about how to freshen it up when a mate offered to take it off our hands... a clean slate, so this topic has been on my mind for months now.

First and foremost, the kitchen must slide out from the passenger side, pulling up and getting a lunch feed by the road means we are not exposed to traffic, old unit had rear side kitchen and this was a concern for us over the years. That one slide must have everything you need for organising that meal (usually lunch or morning tea/ So it had to have the fridge cutlery and some staples, bread etc....

to make that work with the tent, weve gone to a rear fold oztrail, also means we now wont be sliding over each other to get in or out.. yeah that was fun when we were younger..but....

Two key reasons my 2nd CT was a rear fold as well. Although in my case the fridge is in the rear of the tug.
