My thoughts and the MySwag communities are with John and his family. As you are all aware John has been training for his upcoming cancer ride and I have just had word today that he has been in an accident today with a car while out riding.
I am sure he will be along soon to fill us in with further details.

Worst luck dude make a speedy recovery and go chase that dream
-
Wishing you a speedy and full recovery John. As for those red light runners, if our "Revenue Collectors" were serious about road safety they would spend more time concentrating on intersections instead of sitting in their mobile "Cash Registers" behind roadside hoardings looking for those few km's over. Vehicle vs Cyclist is never a good outcome.
Cheers
-
Got out of it lightly compared to what could have happened with some deadShit going thru a red light
hope you got some cute nurses for sponge bath time..
-
Catie has just advised that John is out of recovery and feeling OK, considering.
-
So sorry to hear John that you are missing out on your ride. I hope that you have a speedy recovery and are up and about very soon.
-
That's terrible! Bad enough to happen in the first place but the timing was sure terrible.
Let the dreams go on John. Don't give up! I'm sure you'll be back on the bike before long and on the plane if not this year, there's always 2016 or 2017. Never say never!
Rest up mate!
Life's a bitch sometimes!
Tobias, Karen and the kids, sending our love and best wishes.
-
Not good, hope you recover quickly and fully.
-
John I share some of your pains. I got cleaned up by a car that "didn't see me" that made a right turn in front of me when riding my pushy, resulting in a head injury and shoulder. It was a few years ago now but my bike riding is pretty much restricted to bike paths/lanes now.
-
Sorry to hear mate.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
If you need anything just shoot me a PM and I'll do my best to assist where I can.

John,

Thankyou everyone for your well wishes - they are all very appreciated.
For those that know Adelaide the accident happened on Anzac Hwy, Everard Park. I was going along Anzac Hwy, and the driver went thru a red light when turning from Anzac Hwy onto Leader St.
Unfortunately I was travelling at about 45km/h so by the time I realised he wasn't going to stop, despite slamming on the brakes I knew I wasn't going to be able to miss him and was just saying No, No, No.
I hit the front corner of his bonnet, went up onto the bonnet, and then he had stopped so I just slid down the side of his car and leant against it bowed over.
I knew instantly that my trip was gone as I couldn't put any weight on my right leg and my right shoulder was killing me. A few people that were waiting at the Leader St lights then got out and helped me to the side of the road, sat me down and called the ambulances.
It was an old guy, he apologised profusely and said he got confused with the lights as there was a green for those continuing on Anzac Hwy but thought he could turn onto Leader St. I have no ill feeling towards the driver, he made a mistake, and had I been 5 seconds faster or slower I would have missed him. He has already got his insurance company to contact us instructing us to send everything to them which shows he's not trying to diminish his responsibilities.
I have a fracture in my pelvis, two cracked ribs, and had surgery on my shoulder to put in a metal plate and they said they found 10 loose fragments so it got pretty smashed up, plus a broken right pinky finger which was going to get pinned today but has been delayed until tomorrow.
I mave missed my European Trip, but am determined to have myself fully fit for the Beat Cancer Tour which is in January.
So keep those donations coming, the journey from here will be difficult but I am a determined little s..t!!

Good to hear your spirits are still high and your goal remains unchanged. All the best with your rehab John.

Thanks again for the messages.
It has been 8 weeks last Saturday since the accident and I am pleased to say that I am making progress.
I had x-rays done again last week where the results produced both good and not so good news.
Good news - I'm allowed out of the wheelchair :cup: This has meant so much more freedom, not having to get chauffered everywhere, doesn't take 4 mins just to take a leak by the time I get off the couch, into the wheelchair, wheel to the toilet, and back again.
The not so good news is that the shoulder x-ray showed that I still have a large gap in the middle of my clavicle - (collar bone). (The middle part shattered to bits so I have a gap betweeen the two sides). This means that my metal plate (which goes across the bone and then under the shoulder joint) will be in for 6 months. This really sucks as it really limits my shoulder movement as the muscles pinch against the plate each time I try move my arm either forward or up so always painful.
The ribs are all healed, but the finger is still bent at almost 90degrees. I can move it with my other hand but not on its own so this may mean another surgery if it doesn't improve.
Still - looking on the bright side, I am still alive, I am out of the wheelchair, I am on the indoor trainer bike, and with a bit of luck I'll be able to ride back out on the road in about 5 weeks time, and in about 3 months time I will be getting my new bike!!
-
Great to hear John,
I had similar problems with a wrist reconstruction, with the tendons catching on the plates. Not pleasant. Once you get rid of the plates it is soooo much better.
All the best, Marschy
-
" I got confused at the lights" WTF... red means STOP
I hope the coppers take his license off him. The amount of " I was confused " excuses from people who should no longer be driving is ridiculous. Every time someone puts a car through a shopping centre window it is an old biddy who can't tell which one is the stop pedal any more.
-
Oh Crap! sorry to here of your accident John wishing you a speedy recovery
-
Maybe you've got a magic finger like Denzel Washington. His pops out at 90 degrees all the time and he just quietly pops it back in. Apparently it's a great party trick :cup:
-
Might have to end up with something like this for bike riders JC, Good to hear your on the mend and making progress ... all the best to you and the family ..
