My son has recently started playing AFL and I’m blown away by how many parents spend the entire game either talking on the phone or playing games on their phone. An example was on the weekend when I guarantee 80% of the parents watching, were giving their phone more attention than there child.
An example Saturday when one boy kicked a goal, but his Dad only raised his head when someone yelled out his name praising him for a good kick. Then another boy took a really hard knock which obviously winded him, but the mum ever knew it as she was too busy playing candy crush.
I understand we all might need to take calls or urgent messages from time to time and Under 8’s isn’t the most action packed games, but I class this time as bonding time with my Son?

To be fair even candy crush is better than afl ;)

Lol. Sign of the times. The mums used to have a bottle of wine when I was coaching the Rugby. :)

Lol parents used to punch on at some of the games when I was a kid.

Beachman,
What is this "parenting" thing you speak of???
We have teachers to teach our kids, coaches to coach our kids, tv to entertain them and ipads to keep them away from us.
All that's left to do is whinge about how society is letting us down...
Easy - Parenting all solved. >:D
;D ;D ;D
(Have to admit, I agree with you though.....Perhaps they need to get a life.....go camping maybe, but then they might ruin it for us. Oh well back to the drawing board.)

just took daughter to roller skating lessons..
and yep, most parents on laptops and phones... but some people don't know the life/work balance.. some have no choice.

I can understand where your coming from, but who really cares what the person across from you is doing???
At least they are there...

Sorry but I experience the opposite with parents on their phones in the minority. My two kids are involved in 3 softbsll teams, two soccer teams and up until recently a league team and it is rare to see the electronic devices out.
