Title: Ipad
Post by: bluejay on May 04, 2015, 04:08:30 PM
Hi was wondering if you can send a txt message or a photo from a ipad to a iphone.the ipad would only be using free wifii it has the capability for a sim for data etc but it will not have one at this stage.
Is it possible to send pic or txt from ipad to a non apple phone or a samsung tablet etc using only wifii.
Tha apple store guru said no to both but was told by a customer out side the store that you can but you need to get a after market app to allow this to work but was unsure what app??/
Any ideas folks
Thanks in advance
Bluejay

Wouldn't face book chat do that for you?

I can send texts to any device using wifi or cellular data from my iPad.

This came in with the last update a few months back, can also do the same with the latest OS for Macs using the iMessage app.

You can tether the iPad to iPhone and use its internet as well as wifi. Not sure about other phones.

We use gmail, messenger, Facebook, google docs and an assortment of others. I review my sons home work and papers on the iPad.

There is an app called wifi transfer and as long as you can have it on both devices you can send and receive photos.

Heaps of options. Are you wanting to transfer the items or just view them on another device ie sending them to a family member?

If you have an apple ID you can use iMessage to send from one idevice to another provided both are set up for imessage. iMessage comes with the iOS operating system.  I have a non-3g iPad 2, and an iPhone5. I can send iMessages to other iMessage users from the iPad including pictures as long as I am on Wi-Fi.

For other users another option is to just share the photos from your Photo app/iCloud.  Open the photos app, choose the shared albums and follow the prompts. I do this for photos of the kids for my mum in the UK. I take a photo and add it to the shared album and it appears on her device. You can set up an icloud account without an idevice.

To transfer/share : Another option is dropbox. Put the photos into drop box on the ipad, access them from the new device.

For Apple to Apple you can just use iMessage but for actual text/mms to an external device you could try this if you have an iPhone as well as a iPad:

I have iPad Air. I have a Telstra chip in it. I just tried to send normal message on iPad to my iPhone and it says Not Delivered.

Why ?

You can send photos between i devices using Airdrop.
You also have iCloud to store and share documents.
You can also link your messages from iPhone to iPad, so when a message comes through on phone it will also come up on iPad, and reply to message on iPad, even though you originally sent it on the phone.
