Title: Someone's lost GoPro found...
Post by: bobnrob on April 20, 2015, 03:52:19 PM
Do you know any of these people? Please share around!

On the Easter weekend, my niece found a GoPro on the rocks at Bells Beach, Torquay, Vic. The SD card was recoverable and has a lot of family videos etc on it.
Here are a few pics of the family members...

Good onya for doing what you can to find them.
I'm from geelong and don't reconise anyone.
Does anyone reconise that sign on the pic on the top right behind the guy.might be a clue to a location he's been, looks like it might be an airport?

I thought it may be the Antarctic Centre in Tassie.
As mentioned, good on you for putting it up!

check all the folders including the root. Some people, myself included, create a little text file on the SD card with name and phone number or similar. You may get lucky

Yep it's a very common thing to put your contact details on the memory cards. I have them on all of mine. Go pro actually suggest it in a tutorial I watched once due to how easy these cameras get lost.

Wasn't aware people were putting contact details on their cards...never heard of it before.
Will do it on all mine now, and get my niece to check the card

Can't take credit for the idea - but whoever thought of it deserves a medal! :)

I only did it after reading about someone having their GoPro returned because they did. There's one on all my SD cards now

Yep, a great idea! I've been doing this with all my USBs for years. Never lost one yet. I work in a school and tell all the students to do this. They seem to lose them all the time.

I also have my phone wallpaper lock screen with my name, email, work phone and ICE details including her mobile for the wife. Means if I put the phone down somewhere all the details needed to return it to me are on the first and only screen folks see without having to unlock the phone.

Great idea with memory cards. Not sure we have this, usually I print a small sticker and wrap it around them. But this works too!

It's a fair distance from Pt Lonsdale to Bells, not saying it couldn't happen but it would have to be around 40 km away. Will keep a look out in local media though.
