Title: 4WDers keeping OZ Pristine
Post by: patroldude on April 20, 2015, 07:38:48 AM
Thought I would start a thread of the good things that 4WDers contribute to this great country.

The CQ Offroad Club has just organised a clean up of 9 Mile Beach. Together with Parks, the local council and members of the community we filled a truck with rubbish and made a difference. What have you been involved with? Let's get as many pics and stories of 4WDers doing the hard yards and making a difference. Guys only focus on the positive things, we all know that 1% do the wrong thing. Cheers

Great job guys.

We clean up any campsite that we come across that needs it. After travelling for a year we found about 50% of campsites had rubbish laying around. The most annoying was people filling fire pits up with rubbish & not burning it. Or filling them during fire ban season! Also filling them with cans & bottles!

The photo below is as box full we picked up on Fraser. (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/04/19/4c38ca7d1d6b063f95eea6594cd89da3.jpg)

On Saturday we had members of our 4wd club volunteer their time to help plant 400 trees, and put in about 500 mtrs of fencing also in Wickham Timber Reserve, which is the Northern end of Plunkett Reserve at Logan. 2 years ago our 4wd club along with one other cleaned up Plunkett Reserve for clean up Oz day, we've done fencing there since then, and this was some more helping out in the same reserve. i couldn't help this time around as i was away in Gympie for a wedding. When I get home tonight I'll post the pic up of what everyone dragged out that clean up day. Trip report was done here http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=35631.msg569465#msg569465 (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=35631.msg569465#msg569465)
Will also have members attending the Fraser clean up again this year also.

EDIT.... below is the pic i mentioned above of the amount of rubbish everyone removed from the reserve in 2014. There was another 3 or 4 industrial bins not pictured full of rubbish also.

This was a good story about a group of young blokes taking it upon themselves to clean up. It's a shame that they have to do it in the first place but that seams to be the way it is these days.

How do we change the mentality of some groups? Surely attitudes can't stay like this.

The Grafton & Districts 4WD Club has for a few years now in-conjunction with NPWS & State forests in the Clarence Valley helped on Clean Up Australia days.
Many members have for years helped in this and it is mind numbing where we find stuff.
The dumpers have gone out of their way to dump their crap.

I wish more stories like this were actually acknowledged rather than the closure of tracks and free camps due to the minority. Good on everyone that lends a hand and respects the tracks they drive.

Cheers,
Matt

Thats terrible - ok its good to see it being cleaned up, but the fact that much rubbish is being dumped in the bush is just beyond words.

Bloody fantastic stuff. Faith in human nature restored, also faith in the effect getting out into the bush has on most people's values and view of the world.

18 months ago wife & I were in a tiny remote rural cemetery up behind Nymboida where some prat had dumped of all things a dead kitchen microwave oven in the bloody litter bin. Who would know how far this prince among Aussies would have had to drive in order to do that.

I'm ashamed to say I just tut-tutted angrily. You've shown me what I should have done, and will do next time.

Thanks for the reality check!

Hi Steppenwolf, to say I'm impressed with your response is an understatement. Wow think how many peoples attitudes we could change in a year if we keep the momentum up!!!!! Well done mate. Cheers

Guys if you to get the family out doors with some free camping and help keep our beaches clean.
Another fantastic free camping and cleaning weekend which 4WD QLD and members have been invited to, is the Double Island Clean Up Weekend being coordinated by Surfrider Foundation Australia (Sunshine Coast Branch).

If you’re after a seaside escape over the weekend of 9-10 May, register your camping numbers and vehicle rego through cleanupdoubleisland@gmail.com and they’ll organise for free camping and vehicle permits with QPWS; an excellent opportunity if you can’t make Fraser Island Clean Up, even excellenter if you can!

Please pass this information to all club members and get your registrations in before 6 May.

We were up the cape in 2010 and there was a young lady from land care on the beach collecting rubbish. We were talking to her for a while and she told us her moto is to leave every beach better than she found it. It is something I have tried to do as well and the kids are trained to pick up any rubbish they find.
Very amicable.
