Poor Bronny has been diagnosed with shingles and she's not a happy camper atm :'( :'(
It's in her hair, forehead and left eye, itchy as buggery and because it's on her head the nerve endings are giving her electric shocks into her brain, not funny, and could affect her eye sight. We've been told the pain and rash could last 2 to 6 weeks and we're supposed to be leaving in 18 days :-\
So who else has had shingles and how long did it take to clear up ?
-
Unfortunately, I've had them no less than 3-4 times. They say they are stress related.
They were at their worst for the first 3-4 days but i found they can hang around for a few weeks or longer, though the intensity is often far less than the first few days and had been quite intermittent.
Th first time was the worst where I had them present on my torsos and eyelid in one eye.
Hope they clear up quickly, I can sympathise with the pain she's going through.
-
My mum had them in the same place Keith. No fun at all.
I don't remember how long they took to clear, but she never completely lost the itching sensation on her head.
Hope Bronny can get over it very soon, and shake it completely.

I've had shingles quiet a few years ago and they are a bastard.
I had them on my back and sides.
If they complete a circle around your organs they can cause alot of damage but in this day and age the medication makes them far less of an issue but still very uncomfortable.
It's from measils from memory...When you catch it they retreat into your nerve endings and can reaper in the form of shingles decades later.
Just take your Dr's advice and keep her as comfortable as possible

Long time ago, in another less happy life, the Ex had Shingles.
As the others have said, follow the Doctors advice.
We also found that bioflavinoids for shingles (http://www.google.com.au/search?q=bioflavinoids+for+shingles&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari#hl=en&q=bioflavonoids+for+shingles&spell=1) can help.
(though I'd post a google search link to let you do your own reading)
Good Health Food shops will have them, lots of places have small amounts in with Vitamin C, try to get a strong dose with a mix of the various bioflavinoids, and not a lot of Vitamin C if any.
It's to help boost / support your immune system.
Also helps with Cold Sores.
Hope she gets some relief, and you both get your trip.

Yep, same here. Lasted about two weeks - I got diagnosed pretty quickly, within the time limits for anti-virals - not sure if they worked but 14 days seemed pretty quick to get rid of them. If you wait too long the anti-virals don't work.

PS,
Sarah's had them too...but it didn't bother me much then.... ;D

My wife had shingles a year or so back. Same symptoms as the OP - itchy, sensitive head and eye. Persisted for a while and appears to have done permanent damage. She is still taking drugs to control the nerve irritation she has.
It's potentially a very dangerous thing to get. It is possible to get immunised against it although the immunisation isn't a 100% guarantee against contracting it.

Also had it in my early 20s, (30 years ago) chest and sides as well, nasty, had to drive to Sydney from Bris for brothers wedding was worst drive ever every bump was felt, about 36 to 48 hours was real bad, 2 weeks eased up heaps about 4 weeks some minor spots and iches and these lasted for months. As mentioned follow docs advice must be something out now that eases the symptoms hopefully.

Update, Bronny's rash has gone and the electric shocks from the nerves have stopped :cup:
but the mild head ache and general feeling of not being totally well is persisting and may last for several weeks apparently :'(
