Does anyone have an opinion or experience of using the awning tents?
I'm thinking of buying one for boys weekends/ short trips / overnight stays when the camper is not required.
Are they sturdy enough as they just hang off the awning. Seem like a good, fairly cheap opinion and basic and easy setup.

A cheap dome tent would be better and cheaper.

Not interested in domes, been there done that. What I like about these is that the awning is above the tent, kinda like a tropical roof and being right next to the vehicle offers a fair bit of protection from the elements.
Plus it is big enough to stand up in the whole tent area. It could also be useful to the missus and tin lids for days at the beach

I don't have one so cant comment on their use but I would like the fact that you could stand up too if you are going to go a dome tent might as well just go a swag. This is the option we took for non camper trips we have the kulkyne double I can get changed in there if I need to but cannot stand up. I guess it depends on how much they are and how often you would use it, if you do full day trips to the beach it might be good if it is ok in the wind and doesn't take too long to set up, the option to get changed before going back in the car can sometimes be a good one.

Seriously considering one for overnighters in the swag in case it starts bucketing horizontally.

The idea is to setup the swag inside the tent. Helps to keep everything clean and dry from rain, dew and any moisture around the place.
Also if the missus and young fella happen to need to use it too on occasion then it is good protection from the elements and keeps the creepy crawlys and slithering critters out of the sleeping area as opposed to swagging it on the ground.
Just curious to know how well they hold up when setup.

Committed this morning. (I should have been committed a long time ago)
I bought a Supa Peg/Supa-RV awning a couple of weeks ago and at the time they had the room tents to suit at half price. Didn't have the $$$ at the time but asked them to put one away for me at the sale price. Picked it up this morning on the way to work but won't be able to set it up till the Bigriggen meet weekend.

The Supa-RV looks the goods. What is the height?
I saw one of the Oztrail ones at BCF and it is only 145 to 175cm high. I couldn't see how to make it any taller/higher without it coming off the ground. Considering my awning is over 2 metres high, and I am 188cm tall the Oztrail looks way to small. You just can't stand up straight in it.

Not sure of the height, still in the cardboard box & won't be able to check it until the Bigriggen weekend. I live in a unit with no where I can set things up. You could give them a ring, they are very helpful guys there.

Why would you setup a swag inside a tent??
Why not just sleep in the tent or the swag???

Or set up the swag under the awning??

Here I'll post this up again because you must have missed my reasoning.
I'd even go as far as to say I am thinking about a swag on a stretcher in a tent
Why..... Because I can ???? and I like using my stuff

I'm going this way I recon for my campers "lounge/changingroom".
I realy need to find a pretty small one along the vehicle lenth as I think much over 2m will look a bit wrong.but having said that I could go out 2.5 or so I guess.
Be mounted to the camper racks not the 80
