Title: Overnight Stops Between Cobar to Broken Hill
Post by: suziq on April 07, 2015, 08:57:02 AM
Hi,

My husband & I are heading down to Andamooka from Cairns in July. It has been over 20yrs since we have done Cobar to Broken Hill & have always driven right through but now we have the time to take our time, what is Wilcannia like these days? Is it still advisable to just fill up & carry on to Broken Hill. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Suziq.

Whilst I haven't personally been there I believe the riverside camp area just east of Wilcannia is quite a nice spot these days and just far enough from town to stop the nuciance's

It's called Warrawong on the Darling. I've been there twice and it's great. Quite possibly the most extravagent amenities of any caravan park in Australia (those who've been there will know what I mean).

Thanks for the tip on Warrawong on the Darling. Will tuck that away in the memory bank for when we are next up that way.

Cheers!
Andrew

Great place Wilcannia, recently spend 3 days there at Warrawong park and loved it, one of the best parks I have stayed in, also try the coffee shop in town and if your after fuel go to the other garage on the back street, it was 11 cents cheaper a litre than the one on the main road for Petrol and Diesel.

Wilcannia used to have a bad reputation years ago but thats gone now

Or if you have a bit of time, treat yourselves to a night in White Cliffs at the underground motel. It's only 90ks north of Wilcannia.
We did that as I have always wanted to have a look around there. (Although we came down from Tibooburra) It's quite interesting too. We went in January so it was awesome to have a dip in their pool and spa! Lol
Awesome sunsets from the top of the motel. I really recommend visiting.
Dave.

Thanks for the info on Wilcannia. I do remember the bad reputation but glad to hear that that has now gone. Will check out the Warrawong Caravan Park.
Cheers Suziq.
