Looking to buy a 4wd after June 2015 to tow a GIC CT. To be used for National Parks, made gravel roads, etc, no off road trips....
Was looking at the Hilux or Prado when the 4runner caught my eye.
The only ones for sale seem to be before 1995.
When did the last model sell in Australia?

Try red book but 95/96 rings a bell.
Good things but the V6 was thirsty and a bit gutless to toe and leaked from the rear crossover exhaust manifold.

I had a 96 model back then but wasn't all that impressed so sold it after 12 months. It had 60/40 tyres and was rather unpredictable on sealed roads in the wet as it tended to slide around a bit and would skid under braking.
It may have been a little better with 90/10 tyres but they wouldn't have been suitable for off road.
The rear window/tailgate was a pain especially when raining as the window had to be wound down before you could lower the tailgate. Also if the rear window wiper arm had not gone back into its holder correctly the electric rear window wouldn't work. Still not a bad looker but I think you could do better.

Thanks for the heads up...
I will be looking for something 3 - 6 yrs old.... :D

Have a look at the 96ish Prado RV4.
Bulletproof 2.7 litre four cylinder. No plastic flares that are faded by now. Later tech front suspension.
I love 4runners but you are stuck with gutless 2.8 diesel or thirsty v6.
Have fun.

Thanks dazzler.
HiLux is top of the list, then Prado.
Need something I can throw firewood, etc into the back...
