Title: BEWARE DOG OWNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: cruiser 91 on March 27, 2015, 09:46:09 AM
I'm not sure if this has been covered previously.

I recently met a local dog owner whose residents had been marked for dog poachers. It turns out it has become an Australia wide problem.

Poachers send out scouts into the neighbourhood seeking out "ALL" breeds of dogs for fighting, your dog may be used as bait to trap other dogs or used purely just to die against another breed fighting dog. These bastards do not discriminate as to which dog they steal.

Scouts will usually mark your residents with white chalk or paint either on a tree, fence, gate or curb side etc indicating to the poachers that a suitable dog is within the household.

Please keep an eye out and remember if you find someone looking around a in your street looking like they are from a utility (having a safety vest on), ensure they have a genuine photo ID utility tag.

All the best.

This has been a huge issue around this area... owner of Everything4wd has had a situation where the police say they were followed home from a 'dog walking area' at Hastings and their fence marked. The cops showed him the marking.

His missus was home alone when 2 big hua's came to the yard trying to steal his staffys... not once but twice in 1 day.. They didn't get the dogs, but they now know where the dogs live.

:(

Whilst I am not denying dogs get stolen - I call this 'tagging' thing a hoax.

I've seen this pop up on Facebook for years,  from all over Australia US, UK, in South Africa its criminals marking homes to burgle

Seriously, in this day and age why would you risk getting caught marking a house, when you could just note the address down, add it your phone, add it to a GPS, text it to someone else etc.  Wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of stories are part of Facebook like farming/click bait for websites

Having spent all day driving around locating dogs would you:

a) write down the address so you can go straight there later.
b) take the damn dog while you were there already and not bother recording anything.
c) put up a marker so that when you come back for the dogs you have to spend just as long as you originally did looking for dogs, but looking for marks.

"I'll take option C thanks, because I am a complete and utter moron."

Yep - Click Bait for sure.

This is on Stalkbook all the time.

It is an emotive subject, because most people don't like dog fighting to begin with, and are repulsed by the idea of their fluffy pooch being used as bait...

It is bound to get a lot of people clicking.

We have a Pratt in the next street who lets his dogs bark from 4-30am in the morning when he leaves!  How do I mark the street and who do I call to come get them?

I came home and found chalk marks on the dog. I thought it was the kids, now I'm not so sure?

Was that we're they used feral animals to train greyhounds ? I have no interest in greyhound racing but I also couldn't give a FF what happened to Rabbits. if between greyhound racing, mixy and akubra hats they made Rabbits extinct I would be a happy chap!

I thought this was a common urban myth too, but up until last week I also thought this was as well - http://metro.co.uk/2015/02/26/married-tv-actor-wakes-up-to-find-his-testicles-have-been-stolen-after-kissing-young-woman-in-sauna-5080139/ (http://metro.co.uk/2015/02/26/married-tv-actor-wakes-up-to-find-his-testicles-have-been-stolen-after-kissing-young-woman-in-sauna-5080139/)

It's all fun and games until someone cuts your gonads off.

If you have no luck with the council then make a formal complaint to the general manager that their dog management policy does not address the issue.

Put simply, if the policy on barking dogs incorporates the ability for a noise abatement notice to be issued, and they enforce it correctly, the outcomes will be good.

For a council barking dogs is simply the most difficult issue they face and without a firm policy the outcomes are poor.  Barking dog owners can be infringed into submission quite easily.  Its amazing how compliant they become after the second $500 fine.   :D

The issue was that the rabbits were alive and kicking when tied to the pole. It was mostly rabbits, but there was an instance of a possum being used as well.
People go rabbit shooting and that's ok. So put a dead rabbit for the greyhound to chase and he still gets a tasty reward for running fast.

Yeah no reason to be cruel but I bet your alternative would be acceptable to the masses either?

To my knowledge the RSPCA have not gone after ferret owners who hunt rabbits live by sending them down warren holes?

Poor bunnies - and so close to Easter too...  LOL..

Actually perhaps best not to get your "campaigns" mixed up:
(1) The problems with imported species (eg: rabbits or lantana etc) - wreaking havoc on our fauna and flora...and the;
(2) Vile repugnant cruelty to defenseless animals (for any reason - let alone in the Greyhound industry - for massive illegal profits...)....   Several (3 - 5) of some of Australia's top greyhound winners - were millionaires, and even multimillionaires - through prize monies won from their dogs which it was proven were blooded in this way...

The animals used to blood the greyhounds (ie hone their keenness to chase, and kill) - were Australian native bush possums; and rabbits...

They were videoed being tied to lures on private greyhound training tracks - then being S L O W L Y  (ie over 10 - 20 minutes) torn apart...

Mother possums (tied to the lures) - would watch shaking and quivering in fear as they saw their baby possums heads caved into the ground, or a stump etc - to dispose of them...    The trainers and others doing this; often heard on the video laughing as it was happening...

Then a minute or so later - the lures are launched - then a few second after that - the greyhound(s) are released - then a a few minutes later (after the animal has endured one or 2 loops around the track - the video clearly shows the possum still alive - but with its back now completely broken - dangling prostate across the lure with ! or 2 greyhound pulling and tearing away at it still more...  the trainers standing by, watching and laughing..

So I hope when you express concern about feral animals - and the need for their population control - you don't mean it be done via the methods above??....   Next question should concern what does one do abut the feral humans...   LOL.
