Title: Bed stays (struts)
Post by: rexie1100 on March 24, 2015, 06:41:02 PM
On my soft floor camper the bed stays (struts) seem to powerful, they are pushing (bowing) the metal frame about 10mm.
They are 1150n, seems a bit to much i think.

Im interested in finding out what other peoples soft floor bed stays are, on the label there should be a "n numer" or a "nm number" or just a number.

If you good people could help that would be awsome.

Cheers

Phil

1150n is approximately 115kg of lift which is about right. It's more than likely a fairly thin walled box section frame that the struts are mounted to, making it flex. I had the same drama with mine and when the top was closed the frame was flexing enough to let dust through the seal.

Good , and timely, question.

I am having trouble with my GIC camper.

When the tent is all packed away, it is very difficult to close the bed by myself.  I had the tent up and it took 3 of us to close the bed.

I am thinking of removing one of the stays, but will contact GIC first to see what they say.

This thread gives a starting point for further investigation

I believe one can buy struts at SuperCheap Auto....

Generally the ones at supachip are only for car tailgates and such. Have a look for Dunn and Watson on eBay, they sell heaps of different strengths.

Post one to them and tell them what you want and they post the new ones back. Easy!
