Title: A Warning Perhaps re Techniice
Post by: xcvator on January 31, 2015, 10:10:16 AM
I'm in the market for an extra fridge/freezer, preferably dual zone  :-* so I've done a bit of googling and "Techniice" came up, looked ok, but a bit light on data on the web site  ??? seeing they are just down the road from me I went and asked some questions about power usage etc and asked for a data sheet  answer, no data sheets, i'ts all on the web site, I was then told that not 1 of their fridges (12v) was in stock, all sold, had to pre-order, pay for delivery in April, so I came home.
Well I started looking for any more info about these fridges, and it was interesting what I found, or didn't.
1st no power data could be found any where
2nd from posts on several other forums it seems to be standard practice with "Techniice" to not stock the 12v fridges UNTILL they have sufficient orders either prepaid or deposits paid , in some cases people said they had ordered and paid via the web site THEN were told the fridges were out of stock.
Others experience may be better than mine but I'm now a bit wary of "Techniice" 12 volt fridges , with no data and ordering 2 or 3 months in advance doesn't sit well with me

That's the way they have always run their business.

I've been checking them out also, the info is on the site. Go to car fridges and click on "get the full story", the power use info is in there.

I went to buy one before xmas but as it was at the end of their pre xmas sales they were out of stock of most models otherwise they had plenty in stock earlier on but by procrastinating i missed the boat.
There are a few members here with them and they seem happy.

I ordered a 30 litre a week before Christmas as i wanted a small fridge to keep in the car all the time.  It was delivered a couple of days later however instead of one fridge two had been delivered! I called them and ended up buying the second for a good price (haven't decided what I am doing with it yet) They also have a ebay store where they put items up from time to time.  Fridge is going well and no issues with current draw (but it is only a small fridge) even on very hot days.

all a bit odd, I picked my 45ltr up back in october and was told they had plenty in stock, given the price with the warranty  could they really be that popular. Seems crazy not to have them in stock over summer/holiday period

We have one as our second fridge and have been happy with it so far it hasn't had heaps of use but has been out on a couple of trips and been used in the house for drinks when we have needed it or to freeze ice cream containers of water for the dogs.  I ordered online when I got it for lino6 birthday last year perhaps had no trouble getting it in time.

We have the 60 litre model and it seems to work a treat. We keep it in the car and it does an excellent job no matter the weather, and goes very easy on the power.

Another thing I've just noticed on the Techniice site is they just call the fridge I was looking at an 80L BUT it's NOT 80 litres ( which they don't claim it to be) but is in actual fact only 68 liters capacity so maybe a 70 litre "Koolmate" from Evakool  might be a better buy  ;D

Engel used to do same with their 80ltr fridge / freezer combi...was only 75 ltr capacity from memory once you took the divider into account. I don't think they tried to hide that fact, pretty sure i was either told or read it on the box before i bought it

I think you will find most are the same. Our 50ltdz Waeco, is I think in fact only 47lt. Remember reading something like that in the specs somewhere

Some of the companies actually say xx litres capacity, so that's what it is

Engel is not one of them.
