That's awesome. It went over work earlier too. Are you heading down?
-
Unfortunitely no, Wouldnt give much time there + travel time got to be back for work in the afternoon ..
-
Fair enough. Went to the fly in last year for the first time and it was quite good. Heading to Evans Head tomorrow for a week camping at the caravan park. Any members in the area, come say g'day.

We went down to check out the F111 a couple of weeks ago, Drive down the beach from Ballina. Great day. Awesome machine.
Renno

Yeah I seen the F1-11 on its way down south early one morning. Looked awesome then too. Would've been good if they were able to fire it up for a run and not just a static display.
This was taken at Coolangatta just before the border heading south.

I think there's a Mustang at Tyabb, at least there used to be 1, beautiful plane, and at about 400mph pretty quick, blink and it was gone :o :o
-
I'm in awe of those Mustangs
as for the F111- great plane but I'm too tall to sit in the seat!
Supersonic planes must need stocky pilots
-
Better having them on display than here.
The final 23 F111's were buried at Swanbank Industrial Park.

The government said it was more cost effective to bury them than dispose of them due to asbestos content.
I've heard this "burial ground" is somewhere close by to Amberley Airbase, Ipswich . . . and from what I hear there are also Spitfires and Mirages buried at the same sight (obviously buried at differing time periods over the last 70 years!)
Sad to look at isn't it?

The same thing happened after the WW2 at Archerfield . Pushed into a swamp & sunk . Not stripped for scrap as that would flood the market . Sad but that was the time
-
In regards to that swamp at Archerfield. I and probably most others know where the swamp is and there's rumours going around that the small swamp which is right on the roads edge is a bottomless pit.
Apparently nobody actually knows what's buried in there and how far down it is. But I have never ever seen water so black and awful looking.

Interesting to read that partway through the draining of the old Quarry site, that police shut it down .Reckon when they pulled out all those .50 cal machine guns and grenade etc it spooked them ..http://www.ozatwar.com/quarry.htm (http://www.ozatwar.com/quarry.htm)
