Title: G'day from the South East of SA
Post by: hairyback on January 03, 2015, 09:51:43 AM
I have been stalking the forum for a few months now as to a guide to a new camper trailer. We are a family of 4 with 8 & 9 yr old boys and thanks to the info on here I have decided that a quality soft floor in the trackabout, complete campsite, customline range, mountain trail  would be the go. I am busy over the summer in my work so we are looking for something to keep packed ready to head for the Coast on weekends with a quick set up time, previously we have used a cabin tent or just swags but looking at a bit more convenience & speed. The eastern states seem to have lots of second hand units for sale but SA is a bit lean. By chance living on the Adelaide melbourne highway I saw a 2010 cc Kakadu drive past and pull over at the local park so I pulled over to ask them about their unit. Turns out its on the market and I will be inspecting it next week on their way back from holidays. The unit has everything except the bike rack and boat rack. My question is how hard is it to get a boat rack retro fitted (pretty sure I will be able to add the bike rack) it would be a start from scratch as there are no mounts. Would it be as simple as ordering the gear from complete campsite and getting a local engineer company to do it, obviously taking it back too cc would be a major operation. Cheers Hairyback

Welcome to myswag, great to have you on board Hairyback and co. Never impossible to retrofit any mod you might want, usually just easier to do at time of build. After build it could require removal of the tent if welding of components are needed, plus extra labour to do so.

If you end up with the CC give the guys at Complete a call. They are really easy to deal with. Good luck with the search.

Welcome Hairyback,

My grandfolks lived in Culburra on the Dukes Highway many years ago. My grandpa has a memorial on Schultz Road just before you enter the small township, as he was one of the founders of Culburra. I have very fond memories of your neck of the woods.

If you like heading to the coast, then I have just the trip for you.

Welcome to MySwag, good luck on the inspection. I am sure you could get someone local to knock up a boat rack
