Title: used 4x4's
Post by: Mik01 on November 10, 2014, 08:48:32 AM
been looking for a cheap 2nd hand landcruiser or patrol these past 4 weeks - registerable, but will get  much more offroad usage than my current one, so it will be cheap and practical.

what I find amusing, is the amount of claims of no offroad/beach - seems there are a bucketload of fourby's with lifts/other mods that apparently have never seen the end of the bitumen?????

in some ways, it turns me off contacting them as I ask myself if they are legit or not (they may well be).
it wouldn't be hard to get underneath and work out if it has had any offroad fun.

whilst I guess the ideal is to buy grannies shopping trolley, it doesn't really worry me - should people be upfront about this do you reckon, and does it come into your thinking if you were buying a used vehicle that will be used offroad (different story with a touring 4wd or shopping car for the wife)?

I found the same looking for an TD 80 series, flew to every state in Australia looking at these "immaculate" vehicles with 400,000 plus Klm's. A lot of blokes clearly don't understand what the words "immaculate & Excellent" condition are.  But I finally did find an 80 that had only been driven to church on a Sunday :)

You would be shocked how many show ponies there are out there... just cause it has 80,000 in accessories on it, doesn't mean it hasn't been used only for road work...
Roly ran into a fully loaded lifted GU down at the boat ramp in Sydney years ago, drummed up a conversation with the bloke, turns out he only uses it for towing the boat in Rose Bay to the ramp and home again.. yet had the works, down to twin lockers and 35's...

I agree with Bird in that so many just get loaded up with all the factory options and never get used, its always a compromise between getting a well accessorized vehicle that will save you money and one that is dead stock and low k.

well he has been 'offroad' - the boatramp!
yeah I suppose, but it is difficult to believe when you see those mods and its advertised as grannies daily trolley!
