Looks good, and for the haters, jealousy is a curse. I'd love to be paid to do what they do as well. But until I get that dream job, its a good bit of easy viewing that easily beats all the other 'reality tv' crap on the idiot box. Just my 2¥

Not jealous or a hater, but it already looks like repeats of M A S H.  Same people, same jokes, same tracks.  It was good once.

Don't hate it but they need to take a lesson or two from Alby Mangles. Add some bling. Like add a horse!

Def interested to check it out, but Kenny puts me off.
His driving on 4wd action was bloody disgusting hitting tracks flat out with lockers on then going crap I broke something!!!!!!
Personally I reckon they were putting this together before Roothy left 4wd action, all just happened bit quick.

Even Pat Callinghan agreed he left to start doing his own thing without the limits......

End of the day proof is in the pudding, hopefully Kenny's action previously was more a push from 4wd action head honchos than his own actions.....

Personally I think the price is a bit steep, probably should be free along the lines of Unsealed.

Good to hear they aren't going to tear the tracks up like they once did.

There were a few lines in the promo having a shot at the way EMG did things. Good to see its more of a focus on touring and history of the places they are at. At the end of the day its light entertainment

Roothy & his Unlock Australia group.

We were petitioning a closure of a beach here in Yamba nsw and posted on the Unlock Australia wall for some support from these guys.

Never even got a reply from them. >:(

Even the post i put up seeking support has vanished  ???

All piss & wind they are.

Saw the Rooth crew filming (yes Kenny and Hasbeen etc) at South Nygala Rocks (Fraser Isle) on the last long weekend. They were heading north and were pulling out some dodo who was towing a small boat and got stuck.

Who is the driver of the dual cab??.....I'm not convince they will not tear up tracks after watching him launch over the sand gutter things and getting car and trailer bogged in a stupid spot.......the average punter wouldn't do either.

My comment should have had a wink, I thought this bogging was pretty irresponsible too, I agree no need to go up there.

So do we reckon the reason for leaving of Action was to start his own show. Anyway he does have a voice fo 4WDing so maybe we can just let him get on with it rather than paying out on this - oh hang on, we are in Aus so better bash him up ;D

Hi Steve

Its the mixed up messages that do more harm than good to the 4wding community. The we know how to look after the bush, now watch me rip up this track......   (just my thoughts)

He does appeal to some who enjoy his show so each to their own.

I like Pat's show except for the constant selling.  But s'pose it needs to be paid for of course.

cheers

Well I like Roothy. There's just something about his happy demeanour that I like. I also liked seeing where the harder tracks were because they were the sort of tracks and adventures that I looked forward to going on. They often have some of the best scenery as well.

As KingBilly said, it is 'light entertainment' after all, and if you don't like it, you can change the channel ;D  Besides, there are plenty of alternatives now that between them all, cover every aspect of 4wding, touring, camping, fishing(unfortunately ) etc...

I am a 4wd/touring/adventure/travel junkie, so I watch every show possible on the topic (including re-runs of re-runs when there's nothing else available: I have seen more of Penny Wells than I'd have liked in my lifetime). I am definitely keen to see more of our great countryside and it's history, along with some more great tracks,
so I am keen to give Low Range Off Road a go.

Plus, The Offroad Adventure Show starts today too  :cup:

Me to, I like Pat and have for ever - yes produce placement gives me the Shits. Much more relaxed and like you say not there to trash the tracks per se.

I'm happy to see this. The impression I get is Roothy was fed up with the way EMG was going. Perhaps it was the imported goods, the taking of camper trailers where they shouldn't have been, the constant choice of the hardest line possible even if there was an easy track around and the restrictions to what they could visit and do (or a combination of the above).

I guess it will come out in the wash

Aaron

I'm all for self censorship but when they do foolish things that provide ammunition for people who hate 4WDs or even contradict their Unlock Australia message you'd have to agree that this isn't an ideal situation.

One problem I see is if people see this sort of thing happening on TV they think it is alright to go out and do it in the bush.

Monkey see monkey do!

For me it's more like the other DVD was like 5-10yrs ago. More about the trip, what was there and the history of the place rather than "my brilliant ### winch" or "superb &&& awning" that it has become.

And when the wife says she prefers Roothy's new DVD, who am I to disagree......?!

Talking about the ute, there seems to me that there is a fine line between momentum and speed that many don't/can't comprehend. For instance a mate who'd just bought a 4WD and came down here from the Goldy for hols asked me to run him through sand driving. Sure I says, the normal things follow as we do them; pressures, gear selection, track etiquette and so on."You ready?" "Yep" "Righto then, count to five then follow me..........."

Damn, he doesn't have a radio and I can't see him once I get to the end of the access track. No biggie, I figure he's just counting long. Sure enough he comes bounding over the last dune, nearly airborne with a wicked grin I could see from 200m away. When he gets to me I start by warning him he should expect a bollocking for that entrance but we needed to recount the steps.

Pressure? 18PSI like you said.
Did you see someone else and decide to wait to give them a clear track? Nope, just wanted to make sure you were clear is all.
Fair enough I said so, gear? Second.
Second low yeah? Second what?

Even though I'd shown him earlier that day what the stubby lever did, he said he figured that momentum=speed and that second low=second slow which would be about 40kph!

Yes, I took him for another drive with me driving him first then him driving, tinkered with pressures to show him the difference and so on over the next hour or so. No worries Matt, I'm going back to town to grab a widget, be back soon. Off at warp speed! Needles to say I had a couple of blokes wander over to voice their opinions of his driving prowess and displeasure at being covered in sand so I invited them to pass it to him first hand when he returned, which he did in the manner he left. I think offering to give his 2 week old, $48k truck a Tasman Sea bath if he continued got through as he led when we left at a steady 2ND low pace!

My point being that you can describe the difference between the two until you're blue in the face, some just don't get it unless the right motivation is applied. And if the truck just keeps getting fixed as "the price of R&D" I'd suggest that the appropriate motivation hadn't been yet applied.

He seems like a nice enough bloke but to me he doesn't seem to have the prowess and insight that the years of driving he claims to have should've brought him.

YMMV.

IMO Pats comment #4 is pretty much 'on the money'.
I like a lot of what Roothy dos, especially in championing older 4x4s.
However his videos arent just 'entertainment', given how many of the entertained seem to use them, and similar, as 'learning tools'.
Given the 'explosion' in the popularity of off-roading, our hobby simply can't afford to have a corresponding increase in the 'yobbo' factor, who are out there to tear up tracks, etc.  a corresponding increase in the yobbo / 'hoon' element will inevitably result in an accelleration in track closures.

Trouble is, Pat is just as guilty, despite the Mr 4x4 Perfect image he now tries to portray.  I would say I get more annoyed with Mr 4x4's most recent shows to the extent I just don't want to watch his rubbish anymore.  If between his Perfect Patrol and the film crews vehicles they do not have the right recovery gear and have to make up things like calling a tree trunk protector a winch extension strap all because they did not have a recovery hitch to attach the winch to and proceed to do the recovery all wrong........

For someone to call himself Mr 4x4 you would reckon he knows a thing or two and actually do the right thing rather then just make it up at the time.  Pat forget your sponsorship and seriously look at what you are producing.  You polish a turd and all you end up with is a polished turd.
