Hi Fellow Swaggers
The family and I are looking into a holiday next year at xmas time to Fiji. I was wondering if any one has been there before especially with kids. What resort/hotel did you stay at? Did you get a package from say Flight Centre or someone else? Would you go back? etc
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Mick

G,Day Mikkez
Mate its been a few years, and havent been there at christmas..
But I can highly recommend the Naviti Resort on the south west Coral coast, Absolutely a great place for kids and parents to relax ..
They have a kids club to give parents time out, there are local trips to villages, quad bike riding, rafting, boating diving reef walks plenty to do if you want activities ... The all inclusive deals are great value .
A work mate has just come back from 14 days there and by all reports the place is even better than when we went, you get treated like family and just dont feel like leaving the place ..

Hi Mick,
we get over there alot... (sometimes 6+ times a year.)
To answer your question, i think you may need to tell us a little more..
1) How long do you plan to stay..
2) Is this a "budget" holiday or ??
3) Do you like staying on the islands? I.e is there any medical conditions etc..
4) Preference i.e chilling by the pool or sightseeing?
I personally go over now for snorkelling and just sitting by the pool.! Yes it's our relaxation spot on me island... But people go for different reasons.

How safe is it there, and what areas would you stay away from - or what islands would you stay away from...

We were there after the coup and didnt notice any troubles, they say Suva is a pretty rough place in parts as with most bigger places they have good and bad ...
The only thing that realy ticked us off was the Indians, found them rude arrogant and very pushy, Anything to get your $$. Its hard to stay away from them as they seem to own just about everything out side of the resorts .
No wonder they live in barbed wire fenced / search lighted fortified compounds ... Found them to treat the Fijian people like dirt and there was a few that I wouldnt have minded Snotting for their actions, but Its a long way from home and you got your family to care for .
Never felt worried once by the Fijians during our stay ..

We went to the Warwick and absolutely loved it!!

Thank you for your replies. edz I have looked at that resorts website and it looks nice.
So I should clarify our situation as suggested by firefox -
1. 2 adults & 3 kids - (5,3 & 1 - they will be at time of trip)
2. Daughter has allergy to peanuts - we carry an epipen for her
3. We would like to relax but we would also like to do some activities
4. We would be planning on staying about 6 to 10 days
I hope this helps
 Mick

Hi Mick,
So i would stay either on that initial suggestion (coral coast) which is good, or Denaru (which is where a number of large hotels are)
The best along there for kids is the Radison Resort (we've used hilton alot as well but a little more $$)
What alot of people do is also split their stay. Do say 5 days on denaru (which you can laze around the resort do the inland tourist thing)
Then maybe 5 days or so out on the islands (which is very easy to ferry to from deanru) That way you get the best of both worlds.
For family castaway resort is probably the better (and is just from my place wadigi) Castaway has the better swimming beaches (at low and high tide) and also reefs for snorkeling.
I was there about 5 weeks ago, they've done it up a little lately after the last big storm.
There are plenty of other options as well. Just depends on what you want to see. But the above is close by the airport and gets you to everything pretty quickly. And denaru is the main hub where everything leaves from.
Yes i also and agree we LOVE the fijian people, i hate the westerner's that overrun the place and treat the native people so badly. Not all do but a significant majority do.
Don't stay at the Softel (we tried them last trip) and room was terrible. Just things broken etc and it was supposed to be the best money can buy.

X2 for castaway.
Don't bother with shopping in town on the mainland - it's not that cheap and it's dirty. Not what I would call a good experience.
I found the Indians who owned the establishments hire local Fijians to stand out the front and tout for business, so you think it's owned and staffed by the Fijians.

We've been to Treasure Island a few times.
For kids its absolutely fantastic.
Its got heaps to do without the "tourist trap" markets, marketing and spruiking that happens on the mainland.
The island isn't paved with travertine and as glamorous as some of the mainland resorts, but the friendly staff and perfect views from every room make it a special place.
We won't ever go anywhere else now.
If you do go to an island, pay the extra and take the chopper, it saves heaps of time and is an event in itself. (Try to get Jenny to fly you (island hoppers) - she's very easy on the eye!!!!)
Whatever you choose, you will love. its a great place with great people.
Cheers
Brian
