Since we purchased the 4WD we have discussed the idea of buying a swag or swags (not interested in a tent) to get away on 1 night trips as we both agree taking the camper out for an overnight is not likely to happen. Just throw some stuff (grog, wood, chairs, food etc) in the back of the Ute go somewhere for the day and make camp. the packing an unpacking is not a concern.
appreciate to hear other thoughts who have or do similar

Yup, here's my swag setup designed for solo quick getaways.

Swags is a great way to go. Over night or a week. We just stop somewhere for the night. Only takes a 5 min to be ready for bed. I had a small swag and had to go bigger. Double is good now.

Swags are Definately the way to go for a quick getaway. An OZTENT RV3, 4 or 5 (30sec tent) is also a great option for a bit more comfort if you can afford it. Been able to attach it to your awning is a good thing http://www.oztent.com.au/oztentrange/oztent-rv-3 (http://www.oztent.com.au/oztentrange/oztent-rv-3)

That's all I do at the moment, swag or tent. We do the My swag trips for 2 reasons, a good group of people and to research campers from owners.

If it's just me, I use the brown swag and the young bloke has the green one. If the family goes, the wife and I use the tent.

We got a Kulkyne double dome swag and have it under the ute tent at the back. The awning is handy for shade and the tent on the back gives a small bit of privacy. We got the swag (replaced another swag) for the 1 to 2 night trips.
-
Peter, have you discussed this with the boss? The only reason I ask is I have a small 1 person swag that I use for o/nite with the boat, but my swmbo won't go near them. She calls that my camping, not hers. But then that's why she bought the CT.

I was going to comment but yep what he said this is our set up above, we also had an engagement party 3 hours away recently took the swag and just set it up underneath the awning quick set up and pack up and no one trying to drive that far home tired etc. I really like the kulkyne design it doesn't feel claustrophobic and if I have to I can get dressed in there it isn't super easy but doable. The mattress in them is pretty good but I put a pillow topper in there just a cheap one from dimmeys $30 I think rolled up the most we have fit in it is pillow topper winter sheets doona and blanket it does get pretty heavy then and have to squash it in the ute but we still took esky, ozpig chairs all the dog stuff pillows and our bags, what we are wanting to do is properly set up a camping swag grab box so that when we go it has cooking stuff etc in it.

We're the same as most of the others. Single swags for o/nighters for me and wifey and son when he comes camping with us. Wifey's happy with that and would rather that and get away more than setup our CC. The other 2 have dome style swags, I have and love my bedroll swag. I feel claustrophobic in the dome ones. We have a popup shower tent if wifey wants some privacy to get changed. Quick and easy gets us out more.
Cheers

Love the 'back to basics' of the swag - did it last weekend. Our cruiser stays fully packed (drawers) so throw some food and drink in the fridge and the swags and go.

Im another fan of the 30 second tent or swag for overnighters.
Food and grog in the fridge, a small table and basic cooker and we are set :)

It means you can camp easily in locations like this......

And that means you get to wake to scenes like this......

Trouble with swagging it sometimes the moon shines in your eyes

This is the moon going down at dawn at a bush camp east of Warburton on the Great Central Road. I am in the swag under the tarp
-
yeah always good to have options.......we have camper trailer, RV4 and swags.
-
I have swags, or if the weather is looking shyte, I'll take the Blackwolf tent.. just as quick as a swag and awning on the car. but you can stand up and get changed when its pissing down.
-
I like swags for overnighter when i am doing a lot of driving each day like when i have driven from Perth to Syd to see the relos just roll it out and crash
If i am going to a camp spot for 1 night by the time i take the cutlery and other stuff i needed out of the camper trailer i have personally found it just easy enough to hook up said camper trailer and bring it with me
-
I use a mixture depending on the camping required. If on my own its Swag, if kids are with me they are in the Oztent RV5 with my swag under the awning. But getting in & out of the swag can be a pain

I have graduated to using the swag on a stretcher. With a thermarest as well on top of the foam I get a really good sleep (except for the moon) and easy to get in and out. I know it is another thing to carry when trying to travel light but getting up off the ground just got too hard.

Yep, these look the goods. Was thinking of one when I get back into the camping scene

I've got the XL dune outback. There is enough room for a fat man to roll over and not touch the sides :)
Great swag for $199? from Anaconda.

my solution to the swagging overnighters

If it's me and the wife ... It's the RV-5 with a queen air bed (but there's now a camper trailer on the way!)
If it's me by myself it's the Saul Swag, on the C-Gear matting, under the Foxwing awning on the Disco with a Drifta car back kitchen and fridge in the back.
She wouldn't even TRY a swag :(
If it's windy or I need a bit more cover I have a zip on awning wall for the foxwing.
It's a fricken Taj Mahal for one !!! :)

Me too, I usually swag on the back of my Rodeo with canopy. Had it at the boys weekend at the first Knockwood trip. Used to camp in it originally but went to camper.

When it's just me and boy, awning on troll, stretchers and swags.
Stretchers make it way more comfy and reduces dirt and sand and crap getting over swag, making clean up easier.
Only issue with this set is if you decide you wanna go for a night run while at camp, but on par with roof top tent.
For trips with misses I've got a roof top tent, annex and awning set up on my old box trailer.
Also got a cheaper style 30 sec tent that hooks to my awning if me and two kids with just car, or for trailer set up as extra storage on longer trips.
