Title: Hi, brand new soon to be camper owner here . . .
Post by: rockinj on October 16, 2014, 09:00:49 AM
Hello everyone,

I am new (obviously) to the forum and hope to find hints and tips here. My hubby and I are picking up our very first camper on Saturday and I for one am getting very excited!

We have purchased a 2011 Jayco Flamingo ST, much flasher than we were planning when we started looking but the added extras it has really made it value for money compared to similar size and age vans. The van has air con and a small solar panel already, hot water, 12v pump, a full annex and toilet and shower inside. The toilet and shower were SUCH an unexpected bonus!!!  ;D

We have a horse stud and both work full time so the van was purchased mainly to be towed behind our horse truck (Isuzu NPR 300) for camping at shows and also for very rare weekends away either camping or beach caravan parks for this is will be towed by the Nissan Navara.

We have a 6yo son also and we are keeping this purchase a big surprise from him I KNOW he will be so excited on Saturday! We are purchasing through at dealer at Bundy which is about 2 and 3 quarter hours from home. We plan on spending Saturday night at Miara to test the van without towing it too far.

I just wish the week would hurry up and be over already so we can get it!! Yes, yes, I am getting impatient.

So hello to everyone!

Nice looking van - you will have a ton of fun in that one.
We have the Swan and love it.

Good luck sleeping until you pick it up

Thank you!

I really wanted a Swan but could not find one with the extras I wanted or if I did they were way above my budget. I would have LOVED an Outback Swan with hot water connected and AC but it wasn't to be lol.

The Flamingo ST was really great value, thank goodness my hubby can negotiate! We honestly could not replace the van for what we are paying for it. I have been scouring the internet checking and comparing as I wanted to be a million % sure of the van we purchased. :-)

Can you guess that I am thrilled with my new camper???

I am beyond excited to have collected our van today. A few little hiccups and one issue through the dealer that annoyed big time but the van itself is awesome.

My hubby, 6yo and I are currently at Miara for our first run of the van. It took hubby with a small amount of assistance from me as I was taking photos, about 20 mins to do the basic set up of the van. I think this is pretty good for our first go and much, much quicker than organising the horse truck for camping.

Miara itself is OK; it has been blowing a gale all afternoon and I must confess I am shocked just how much sand has blown in the closed camper. My little one's bed is literally covered in sand. He on the other hand has been having a ball. Swimming and helping Dad catch tiddlers. I wish their big brother would catch the line!

Hubby is currently cooking a simple dinner of snags on the BBQ and I am enjoying a Rum, mmmmmmmm. All in all, a pretty good day. I have a few things I need to add to the required list - our food grade hose was about 3 foot too short so I need to get another. Other than that, all in all it looks good for our first trip.

Thank you to everyone who added tips, they are appreciated!
