Title: Melbourne leisurefest .... this weekend
Post by: peter01 on September 29, 2014, 06:42:10 PM
Curious to know for those who have been over the years if there are bargains to be had?? or not worth the drive down??http://www.melbourneleisurefest.com.au/Home.aspx

Went a few years ago. Picked up a few items at good prices. Usually find the Lyall Eales/London Stores have a few different things and deals depending on what you're looking for.

Of course there's always the option for you to set up your own stall/stand selling excess poles and spreaders:-)

Not really a bargain show, unless you want to waitlist for a new camper. Lots of caravans as they have heaps of room to spread out, unlike Caulfield. I am semi interested in going for a sticky beak and stealing some ideas. Maybe I'll ask about ball weights :)

Hopefully going to have a good look at the Vista Crossovers as a distant purchase.

We like to go And have a wander just to look.
The gadget man usually comes home with something we don't need. ????

Have been going to this show for a few years and actually prefer it over all the others held in Melbourne as there's just more stuff. Compared to Caulfield, like D4D said, there is a ton more room for different manufacturers to set up one or more models,  plus a massive caravan section and a section for boats/fishing etc. There's also an inside sections with stalls.

We were looking for a camper trailer for ages so used to go there for that. We own one now but still like to go to get DIY ideas, plus check out the inside stalls and outside area where there's some shops set up. My brother is interested in caravans so we've convinced him this year to go with us.

Lastly, we bought a waeco and solar panel (with accessories) from there last year and reckon we saved around $700-$900 all up. You can definately get a bargain there but you have to know your prices to make sure you're getting a good price. Hubby really likes a certain brand of fishing rod but they were all overpriced compared to what you pay in the shops etc.

Hope that helps.
Cheers.

agree..

but with the division of the show this year, who ever was at the last one a few weeks ago, quite possibly wont be at this one.. gets extremely expensive to display at these shows.

I was at the Kimberley kamper display on Thursday when an inspector from Energy Safe Victoria turned up. He was not happy with how close the gas bottle was to the gas cooker, told the guy there its against regulations, he said he's just a salesman you better talk to the boss. Couldnt get close enough to hear. >:( Would be interested to find out the outcome.

Grabbed a Rich Solar 120 watt solar panel kit for $199 from the Carac stand.  I figured this is a pretty good price given the Aldi panels (at $250) sold out quickly a couple of weeks ago.

While they're doing that,  we'll be busy picking our next CT .......hopefully!

We went today and I almost knocked myself out head butting a sign. Got home and pass out but feeling better now, other than a bit whoosy.

Heading back tomorrow for some deals.

Mrs loved the AS, so looks like the D it is. Got to thank Scoot for letting us climb all over the CT and giving us a good tour of it.

Is it me or the food at this show was extremely crap. I know it's show food but compared to the RMS it was really bad?

Hamburgers tasted foul, hotdogs just of water. Chips were ok but no Dagwood dogs :(

Found the fast food vans stock very limited range.

for those inquisitive swag'rs, they are real and not a gimmick (well maybe they could be a bit gimmicky), but with the small bar table attachment (big enough for 2 stubbies or 2 wine glasses), and swmbo said it had a phone charger outlet as well (but I didn't see that)

http://www.thesunworks.com.au/news/doble_release_innovative_solar_powered_tent_pole

http://www.dobleoutdoors.com/about

and speewa, all we bought were 2 roast beef rolls and a can of drink.

Oh and I picked up a 100amp and a 50amp circuit breakers for the dual battery set up in the new Nav, wherever it is:-)

You can tell the owner sellers and people that get paid to sell!

I was talking with one bloke and said that I didn't like the position of the lights, which were at the back of the mattress on their best KK. Being a tall person I could use every inch and asked if they could be moved?

The bloke told me if I don't like the lights, don't buy the CT! So I walked away.

I found the salesman at KK completely useless! Couldn't tell us anything we didn't already know about the campers. He did say several times that he's not full time,  only helps out at shows,  but if you're you're selling a premium product, your salesmen should know their stuff. Disappointing really.
