Title: Travelling Melbourne to Canberra - want to build a snowman
Post by: bigred on September 24, 2014, 09:40:26 AM
Hi all,

We are heading from Melbourne to Canberra this weekend. I would like to show the kids some snow and build a snowman somehow along the way. This is our first time in the area so looking to be fairly conservative. We are towing a camper trailer .

We are looking for the easiest place to access some snow on the way to Canberra. We'll overnight somewhere.

Regards

Damien

you *might* be lucky to find some but the last few days have been pretty warm...

Which way are you heading to Canberra?

Was thinking of heading up the western side of the mountains. I've been trying to figure out best way to cut across to Canberra. The young fella gets a little on the windy roads. So that will be problematic!!

Likely option is up to Tumut and then across on the Elliott Way to jindabyne

Theres lake mountain snow cam - you couldn't build a snow cup out of it.

I'll keep looking around the cams and see where there is any snow

edit: theres a bit around still

but most is off your path.. chance of staying somewhere 1 night and doing a day trip?

Overnight is an option. Which is the easiest Victorian snow field to get in and out of? I had a look at thredbo as well on the snow cam. It's workable. Thanks for the help.

Your probably just as well off to go up the Hume, and cut across.

No stress..
kids will love it if they get close..
Heading across snowy mtns hwy from Sesame St to the snow you usually find some on the way in when you get closer...
you will need it to get colder..
I hope it gets warmer for our weekend LOL!
