Toyota has a recall out for the FJ Cruiser regarding the fuel tank breather being too close to the exhaust http://www.motoring.com.au/news/medium-4x4/toyota/fj-cruiser/toyota-recalls-fj-cruiser-41850 (http://www.motoring.com.au/news/medium-4x4/toyota/fj-cruiser/toyota-recalls-fj-cruiser-41850) ..................well :o .
I young guy from work had a few days in Frasier Island a week ago with a group of friends and it almost went as wrong as it could possibly go !!!!
I believe they were up near Indian Head crossing a large patch of soft sand when the guy I work with ( In a 4x4 behind the FJ Cruiser ) noticed fire under the back of the FJ, they called on the UHF to alert the driver and told them they could see fire under the back of the car, the four people in the FJ bailed out ASAP and within 20 seconds the whole car was alight, very scary stuff !!
The photos speak for themselves, glad everyone got out unhurt, but if you have one of the FJ Cruisers in question I would be booking it in for recall as soon as possible !!!!!
Cheers

My brother has just brough a Ex Demo FJ Cruiser - just emailed him to get it checked.
I think Toyota owe someone a new FJ cruiser, and the boys in the FJ Cruiser owe the guys in the car behind a carton of something cold!
-
I was only asking the wife what she thought of them today.
She wasn't sold.
Now I'm thinking I don't go much on them either.

I think Toyota owe someone a new FJ cruiser,
and a few new fishing rods also by the looks of it

Going cheap on FleaBay " Really Hot FJ Cruser 1 owner " Low Ks , l can see it now :cup:
Oh What a Feeeling lts Hot >:D
-
Meh.... That'll buff out.
-
It's a Jeep thing, oops :o
-
I was told that the owner had fitted all the fruit as well, hope he had it all listed with his insurance company !!
-
This recall was issued in February,
it affects the one with the extra petrol tank (my is the one before that) I still got a letter from Toyota informing me about the recall
-
It's a Jeep thing, oops :o
for me maybe out of the frying pan and into the fire:-)
Lucky no one got hurt as one of our concerns with the FJ is the rear suicide doors that only open when the front door is open.

possibly a bad choice of words >:D

Got mine done ages ago, interesting it was on sand, as the ones that caught fire overseas were all in hot desert.
-
It would be interesting to know the cause. Breather recall not done or not done correctly, build up of vegetation around exhaust, dodgy 'hot' wire to the rear unfused...

Bummer. I hope they cover it for him. It would make sense to happen on sand; that's probably where your exhaust would get the hottest

That's what i was thinking In regards to the exhaust being hot from engine working harder on sand.
Regards
Angus.

Would have been interesting to see the folks in the rear bail out of the car with those awkward suicide doors....
-
Probably not what he thought he would end up with when he asked for that burnt orange colour.

Hardly awkward, with both doors open the entire side of the car is clear space.
-
Yeah, but they all tried to get out together and those in the back bumped heads into those getting out of the front. :D
Mind you, most Toyota drivers and their passengers need their heads belted together from time to time.
-
Nasty stuff. Lucky they all got out ok.
I don't recognise the spot, not that I'm an expert on all of Fraser but it isn't the actual Indian Head bypass track so where is it?
-
I'm going to say there playing up on the dunes behind the Indian heads track ......... Where your not suppose to be.
-
Maybe you FJ owners could install a couple of smoke detectors under the chassis ;D
-
So I finally sell my Jeep and handed over the firebomb mantle and a Toyota product has picked up the name. Bit of a shame, the FJ was in my final 2 choices of a new 4by and is a great truck.
