Title: CCTV
Post by: Mik01 on September 18, 2014, 01:03:31 PM
I would have thought this was covered once before on here, but apparently not - or my searching skills are poor!

I have bought some acreage, and within the first week, some scumbag decides to steal my wheely bin from out the front, presumably after the garbos came in daylight (or it was full?) - spoke to neighbours the other day, and they told me they had theirs flogged a few days after mine and several others had same happen in the area.  whilst only mildly annoying, it highlighted to me that some sort of deterrent would be good to advertise we have some sort of security, and for any deviants to move on...

my front gate is about 100m away from the house.  we have established that you cannot hear anyone driving in the driveway when inside, let alone if someone decided to stroll in.
we are also going away for a couple of weeks in the not too distant future, so I wanted to rig up some type of cctv for the entranceway to the driveway, on to a recordable device within the house (hidden maybe in the ceiling).

so any of you knowleadgeable swaggers know about what is best and where I should get it (ebay etc)? I'm not looking for mind blowing clarity, but some insurance to id a car or person if anyone gets ideas of entering my property or fooling around at the gate.  some sort of night vision capability would be good also.

should we be running power and data over the 100m or should we look at solar/battery powered unit and wireless/wifi data?
I was thinking of a pole mounted (or tree mounting) camera, a friendly sign on the gate that we have cctv, and recordable data in the house.
cheers, Mike

I think it may have been speewa who was looking at trail cameras. Try a search there.

Probably be better to stick some of these around instead of the  CCTV warning signs

I do this stuff for a living, just not with domestic situations

get yourself one of these kits

http://www.rhinoco.com.au/product/NVR4PROPACK2 (http://www.rhinoco.com.au/product/NVR4PROPACK2)

I have one in our office and for the $$$ you really can't beat them. Also has an app to your iPhone so you can view remotely, comes with the cables.

I think around $1100 with a monitor. They are IP POE cameras with 1.3 megapixel cameras, good for 1080p. I've had then against $1k Axis Cameras, and other than a little better colour reproduction on the Axis most people can't tell the difference,

Should be able to pick them up direct from Rhino, or ebay.

Anything cheaper and you'll be disappointed with outcome.
