G'day MySwaqggers,
On Friday we are heading over to North Stradbroke Island to camp at Flinders beach. I've camped on main beach before, but never Flinders. There isn't much info on the net about the camping areas other than the fact that they are scattered all along Flinders beach.
We have three families going including two camper trailers, so need a reasonable sized camp.
Anyone have any tips for preferred spots?
Cheers.
Pete.

Not too close to the drop toilets ;D , we usually camp up the back so we can get plenty of sun for solar ( your still only about 40m from the beach ) and about in the middle of the two drop toilets !
It's Flinders..................you can't go wrong no matter where your camped :cup:  , have a great time, I wish we could squeeze in a quick trip over there but we're booked up with work and social events >:(
Cheers

It's basically one big area, so first in gets to best spots. Seeing your arriving Friday you might have half a chance, but I'm sure the prime spots are already gone by tomorrow.

There are blue signs that identify the areas with numbers on them at the entrance tracks. We've always camped around entrance tracks 3 or 4. There's some good grassy areas and a pit toilet.
Enjoy.

Thanks guys.
We are actually heading over tomorrow night, camping at the Point Lookout campground for one night (get in late) and then head out first thing Friday before the first of the barges arrive, so hopefully there will still be some decent sites available.
Thanks for the tip on tracks 3 & 4 Jeff - I'll be sure to check them out first.

Hi Pete.
Have a look at Straddie Camping facebook page.
This was posted on Tuesday 15th with photos.
Flinders Beach Condition Report: Please note that access to Flinders Beach is currently only allowed 2 hours either side of LOW TIDE due to a huge hole and fallen trees at the Adder Rock end. It is currently more practical to use the Flinders Township access track. Rangers have opened a temporary beach access point at Track 6, which should only be used at high tide and only in an emergency.
Have fun.

Great spot! I'll be arriving on the beach by 1.30pm.

Come say hello if you spot me!

Hey Pete,
Mate how was the trip. Any recommendations on the site you ended up staying at.
Thinking we might head over there for the G20 long weekend., get there on the thursday morning with friday being the public holiday.
Have not been to straddie for about 10 years, and at that point we were camping at the adder rock grounds. Keen to hit flinders this time.
Any info appreciated
Cheers

Is anyone on Flinders beach now?
How much space is there by track 3, 4, 5?

misses just showed me footage from Higgins Storm Chasing website...some woman camped at Wivenhoe dam video'd her destroyed campsite...wind had trashed her gazebo and the tent looked damaged also. Reckon there'll be a few people in that boat after this afternoon.

Oh dear, it seems like the wife was correct once again....
We were to have arrived there yesterday morning, but going tomorrow now.

I just spoke to a mate at Flinders, all good there.
They got some wind & rain but nothing extreme !
-
Was anyone there from 27th sep to 2nd oct.
I did plenty of sniffing about looking for a myswag sign.
Here is our spot, between tracks 4 and 5

Nice.
Doesn't look too overcrowded there.

daveR. Did you find facing away from the beach more advantageous?

Looks like the weather gods were with you :cup: , we've just booked for Dec 19 to 24 for a quickie before xmas ( we live at Capalaba about 8km from the barge ) . Hope we have great weather like you guys !!

I find that if you setup facing the beach, the wind can play havoc with cooking & water boiling duties !

Question. When booking Flinders beach camping, do you have to specify a section you want to stay in? I thought it was first in best dressed up the beach but when booking it is asking for sections and sites. Or am I doing it wrong ??? :)

I setup in such away togive shelter from the sth east winds.
But....
The breeze came in from the nth or nth/west for 30 hours followed by gale strength easterlies for a whole night.
We had 2 days of post card perfect weather, and a hail storm for 5 mins just as I set up the last of the canvas.

I justbooked flinders and hoped for a spot where we wanted, was not aware of site bookings.
The long drop toliets are tracks 3, 5 & 7.

cheers Dave
I confirmed by calling the booking office. For anyone else that may be confused there is now a new booking system on the web site.
Apparently they are ironing out the bugs . You do have to choose an area (like section 1-12 and a site # when selecting flinders beach camping) but it is still first in best dressed and always will be (or this is what they told me today anyway)
