NO COMPANY BASHING PLEASE !!!! Just watched the latest DVD from the action crew dragging camper trailers through rough terrain in Tassie , and low and behold both campers looked like they had the rear stabilser legs damaged or torn off and its not the first time this sort of damage has showed up in the DVD's ..
Granted most people will not try to drag their pride and joy into some of these extreme situations but some will go on tough tracks at sometime etc and damage to the legs would result ..
Makes you wonder why they dont mount the stabilizers in less damage prone locations and out off the mud n slush of the under body ..
So how have you blokes faired with your set ups and do the stabilsers realy need to be as heavy as they are ..

It was a pretty epic trip and will be available on our website once the new DVD is released in a few weeks.
This is the same trip where Roothy rolled Mustard over and we had to ship her back from our Melbourne Warehouse back to Brisbane on one of our Semi-trailers.
The camper trailer you refer to are our Entry level Offroad Deluxe http://www.marketdirectcampertrailers.com.au/en/off-road/

We have tinkered with the stabiliser legs in different locations/positions but our engineer has decided it is best to leave them in the current position and we have done so with much success for more than 5 years.
The reason is, they are a cheap part to replace. Our replacement stabiliser legs are $40 each.
We feel it is better to have the rock ledges bash up against these parts as they are replaceable, rather than the chassis.
The stabiliser legs are much easier replaced than a bashed chassis rail.

The rounded shape also works similar to rock sliders on a 4WD as they are not prone to get hung up, like a chassis.
I think most in general should agree to our thinking, if not please post here?
We are happy to field alternatives.

Great if ya get a flat tyre on the camper too. 3,000lbs per unit and very stable. Simply slide on, drop the pin in and start winding. Easy on the back too, no bending down as such.
Mine are so good, even a woman could use 'em. ;D only joking ladies.... :-*

Thats the go Jeepers, Yankee style pivot attachments .. for the stabilizers to be swung up out of the way of damage ..

first thought that springs to my mind is make them removeable like some jockey wheels.

Thanks for the reply MDC, yes epic it looked !.. not having a shot at you blokes in particular as MOST ALL manufacturers mount the stab's in the same places ...

I came up with these when I built the trailer.
Bits and pieces of steel I had laying around and jockey wheel bracket bolts.
Stops it from wobbling. ;D

I think the ones I have are Italian or something.
I just carry 'em in the CT toolbox, so easy to get at.

Why not just unbolt the legs when traversing terrain that risks damage? It's two bolts per leg.
I do this on mine when there is a likelihood of the track getting nasty. I replace the legs with a small block of RHS (to stop the mount being crushed/bent) which has a piece of flat bar bent back to the chassis, forming a 'skid' over the mount. For long-distance touring I might consider a spare leg in the toolbox, but more likely to just keep Vehicle Component's number stored in the phone.

it looked like in the dvd one of the trailers had the scissor style wind down legs? if so how much are they as im chasing some to tinker with on my camper for an idea,
