He must never have heard about not defecating on your own doorstep.

Yep, I think he might have run out of chances this time. Could be career ending.

I must have lead a sheltered life - I can't ever remember thinking you know what I'm going to pi$$ in my own mouth and get a mate to take a picture because it will be funny as!!
Classic example of too many dollars and too little brain cells.

Unfortunately Todd is one of those people who just cannot drink - period. Problem being like so many young talented footballers they get paid a hell of a lot of money and get wind blown up their backsides by all and sundry telling them how good they are.

On top of that he continually gets "second chances" because he is a great player.

Hopefully he will be blacklisted by the NRL too - time to get a REAL job Toddy!!
Title: Re: Todd Carney
Post by: Malcolm Tugless on June 30, 2014, 12:59:51 PM
He had six hundred and fifty thousand reasons (per year) to literally pull his head in.

Its doubtful that he'd have much experience at getting a real job, in the real world, for real money. Not to mention having to actually work for a living.

How many more chances will he get ?

I suppose its arguably better to be a has-been than a never-has-been.

What was he doing out on the drink anyway?  These brain dead morons never seem to learn.  They have a golden opportunity to earn 10 times the average wage (in his case anyway) for playing a sport they love as a job.  All it requires in return is some discipline and dedication, and to be a role model to the thousands of young kids and adults who support them.  And in return they behave like cavemen.  Lucky to get as many chances as he did, if he was only average he would have been gone aeons ago with zero second chances.  Sorry but this guy is simply a loser full stop.  I would happily say this to his face even though I would have no teeth or eye sight as his only solution would be to bash instead of listening and agreeing that his actions are those of an A grade loser.

Good riddance....

supposably he has already had offers from French Rugby and somewhere else according channel 9. They just showed an interview with him, what a load of crap, trying to make us feel like he was hard done by, and the Sharks CEO has it in for him after he was the same CEO at the Roosters that sacked him there. The NRL were going to sack him, so the Sharks CEO had no choice but to do it and save some face for the club.

Yep and the NRL refers to them as Professional.  Could just imagine any other large corporation condoning that type of professional behaviour from it's representatives.  He would not last long at all.

As far as I am concerned the NRL has dropped the ball some times on improving the game overall and many other times have just let the ball dribble out of bounds.  The NRL really need to learn what be profession is and maybe go back to some grass roots of the game where the player played football and the Clubs made sure the players had work off the field, instead of just giving young blokes an exaggerated amount of money for doing not much

Good points.

I follow both codes and IMO the biggest difference is the way the clubs are set up.  AFL are far more family oriented with lots of older women involved at club level.

NRL seems more like the players and their posses run it.  They talk about respect for women - maybe ditch the cheer leaders for a start.

In Australia, I almost agree. It's the way the things are run that's the problem.

In the states, it's an honour to become a cheerleader. It's a profession. Starts with a college degree. Here, well if you can jump, shake your arse and have big ......... Well, you're in with a shot.

Removing cheerleaders, grid girls, back up girls, promo girls etc from sport, is like removing grog from footballers so they don't piss in their mouths, or others'.

Kind of like a bandaid IMO.

Watched something on telly a while back about what it is like being a pro cheerleader for Dallas I believe. It wasn't pretty - girls starving to fit the 'ideal body shape', forced to take 'fat pinch tests' and if deemed too 'fat' they either were cut from the team or subjected to punishments, unable to cut or colour hair without approval, bitching and backstabbing, they are required to buy their own outfits and props plus maintain their appearance at all times outside of cheerleading or else, they are required to do promo work for the club free of charge or minimal pay, and they are paid f all - certainly not a 'pro' wage. Which means the girls often work a normal job somewhere inbetween and/or somehow study.

Sounds like a curse to me. If you think about it, you could see how the hyper idealised view of cheerleaders as the prettiest and most popular, plus the huge pressure to conform, could drive undesirable outcomes for the girls. At least cheerleaders in Aus can be a bit larger, or 'realistic', and there is no systemic pressure from school upwards to be the popular cheerleader.

Quite frankly I think it's a vacuous 'job' with no real benefit to society - we don't need eye candy at the footy to enjoy any footy. How can I take my daughter there with pissed blokes yelling lewd stuff at the cheerleaders, while they shake suggestive poses in hardly any clothes with painted on smiles?

I agree with everything said here. But let's not kid ourselves that this is only happens in Rugby League. Let's remember what happened on the last Wallabies tour. I also played with and against some of the best Rugby players in the world back in the 80's and 90's and I know it's an eternity ago, the behaviour of some of these people, in luring a former Enhland national captain was disgraceful to say the least. And this is the "Game They Play In Heaven"!!!! In NZ at the moment and the media has been savage on the "Mungo" league players. Not condoning anything, all I'm saying is remember the saying, people in glass houses as this behaviour us in most of our sporting codes. Unfortunately

100% correct.  Whilstever you treat young adults/boys like princes, give them bucket loads of cash and surround them with try hard losers you are in dangerous waters.

Carney was on 1.8m contract.  Wouldnt you think he would have had the brains to pay a minder 100k a year to chaperone him.  :)

The saddest part for league is the game itself is now played by exceptional athletes that you should have some respect for simply  by the amount of training and commitment they put in.  Let down by a system that is incapable of nurturing the transition from a nobody to a superstar.  AFL does it better and  part of that is the family / club mix.

The only thing the AFL do better is to hide and sweep these sort of things under the carpet before the media and public can get wind..

I have a friend who works for an organisation tied up with the AFL and boy has he got some stories. You wouldn't believe what some of these players have gotten away with here and overseas.

Like everything else in life it only takes a couple of bad eggs.
When so many clubs and players these days really are happy to give back to the community, not only through junior leagues, but community visits hospital visits and so on, it really is a shame that tards like these are given so many chances when there are thousands that would kill for the chance to have the opportunity at a better life .

Nanny state again where the duty of care is lumped on the employer to find the solution.
While I agree clubs do have a duty to mould these players ( to a certain extent) where is the personal duty of care in this case.

It is no different between the codes, all face the same problems.

And don't go blaming the girls, cheerleaders etc, definitely not their fault some bloke lacks social etiquette.

I reckon another team will take Carney on and like other teams in the past will spend a fortune on minders to Risk Manage him to prevent this type of thing happening again or if it does minimise the effect of it.

I would love to know  how much a certain club spent protecting the career of a recent Legend of the game

St Kilda school girl? Stephen Milne?

There are nuffies in all sports, but the media only like to report the ones that sell their papers or get people to watch their shows. Remember when ponting got into a punch up at a night club before he was captain? That sells papers. Dufases setting off flares in the crowd at an A league game sells papers. Todd Carney won't sell a Melbourne paper and Majak Daw wont sell a QLD paper. There would be no problem with public image if there was not news coverage of this stuff.

The talk of them being elite athletes makes me laugh - Robbie Farah on the footy show last week carrying on that since Origin 2 he had been on a bender every night for the last 5 days and was unsure if he was still drunk or just hungover ???

Fantastic sort of attitude for an "elite" athlete - the game as whole is stuck in the binge drink lifestyle. Does the name Blake Ferguson ring any bells?

Hopefully the NRL will stand firm and not register Carney even if he gets another club fool enough to want to sign him

And don't get me started on all the bloody betting advertorials before during and after the games :o

Cheers

Be good....

Mimicking the practice of drinking from a water from a bubbler?
