Title: Is 1 fridge and 1 eski too many
Post by: Bullant4x4 on June 28, 2014, 06:57:16 PM
I have 1 Evakool 110lt fridge/freezer  and a Evakool 85lt icekool box.

I was thinking in putting the 110lt in the back of the patrol for beer and frozen goods and have the 85lt in the CT on the fridge slide for fruit and veggies.

Do you think that's an overkill for a year or so trip? Space is going to be sparing, so if I don't take the 85lt I would use the fridge compartment on the CT for storage.

Thanks for you opinion.

Soo the 85 doesn't require ice?? If that the case sounds alright.....I survive with two Engels 40 and 32. We put our fruit and veg in insulated cooler bags.

Yes it does need ice if using for cold stuff but thought it would be good for fruit and veg which would act like a cooler bag

Fridge/freezer for your main food stuff and the esky for drinks!  ;) You can always throw your drinks into the main fridge over night if and when the ice has gone and the temp drops to far in the esky.

You don't say how many of you there are? We had a similar but slightly smaller setup for the 3 of us (2 adults & child) i.e. a 80 litre fridge/freezer combo for meat, dairy, drinks, etc, and a small 13L esky for fruit and veg. We had a few extra ice bricks so that we could swap them from the freezer to the esky as required. This system worked very well, but often it would have been nice to have a larger esky (especially up in the NT where you have to take advantage of fresh fruit and veg being available - and where milk is on the shelf and bread is in the fridge...).
