Title: A bit of an update
Post by: Symon on June 25, 2014, 12:27:48 PM
As the rest of the crew are out of phone range at the moment I thought I'd post up a bit of an update.

So far we have been through Maytown and explored much of what the area has to offer.  We then tackled the Old Coach Road to Laura.

The track was everything we expected it to be, and more.  It is very rough and there are many tales of damage to tell.

The group has now moved on to Dalhunty River for a couple of nights, I'm stuck in Weipa getting a CV replaced.

Hey Symon, I have two spare CVs in my shed if you want them for your next trip. They're new but Chinese? got them off my BIL when he sold his HDJ79.
Regards
Angus.

Thanks for the update, though that's a bummer for you. Don't you just hate CVs >:D

Hope you're on the road and back into the action again soon.

As for the trip, you(or at least Chris with the Spot) made good time along the Old Coach Road considering the size of your group.

I'm looking forward to hearing all of those tales of damage ;D

How's the damage to Renno's liver? Is it still holding up?  ;)

Definately keen to hear what's been going on. They are probably waiting for the stories to 'grow' a little and become even more extreme!!! :) :)

I'm sure it's been lots of fun no matter what.

Old Coach Road

This track is a MUST DO and the high light of the adventure for me! Walks all over the OTL in scenery and ever changing contrast; almost paved tracks carved into the mountain slope, how they ever built this trail is beyond me.

The track is about 60 K in length, it took 8 hours to cover the track from Ida Mine to the Jowalbinna Safari Camp, hill climbs that just kept climbing and climbing. In some parts I was running along the ridge line heading west to look over and see others in our group heading west on another ridge line only 100 or so metres away.

One other group reported taking 1 ½ days to complete the same track, It’s simply goes to show the determination of our group in repairing washouts and rebuilding some of the track along the sandstone escarpments

Sorry about the damage report I’ll leave this to the others to report on, however the only problem I had was losing a shackle pin from my recovery receiver.

Regards, Chris.

Poor old Renno, I doubt if the liver will survive this adventure, what kind of women would allow their Hubble to travel with Yogi.

The Old Coach Road is definitely epic. We drove it in 2012 and it was also a highlight of our trip.

Glad you enjoyed it and didn't suffer any damage per se

I guess we'll hear about the rest of the adventure in time. Thanks!

Well a group of us are at Seisia, beachfront under trees, what a life. The other half are enjoying another beachfront south of Vrilya Point.

Another great adventure as usual but I will hold that for the report  ;D

Just some pics to tease you all.

Mrs Reno,
Its not his liver you should be worried about. I know what goes on tour stays on tour, but when 2 guys stay in the bush, 100 m away from everyone else, disco lights going, music playing....

Yogi was determined that the lights would be going (loves his toys), "there would be room for the lights to be packed" and always loves his music  :cup:

Ahhhh the nature abounds...
Don't ya just love how trees grow out of the ground in camp grounds in perfectly formed cylinders with perfect right angles to match the horizon !!
And just the right height to rest ya weary legs...     8)

Ahh the serenity, beautiful morning watching a croc swim out the front in the water.
