Hi swaggers, Am after some camping locations about an hours drive around Bathurst. Any help would be great
-
There's a nice free camp at the Chifley Dam, about 20 minutes southeast.
-
Abercrombie Caves
Anywhere on the Bridle Track
-
Sofala, on the other side of the river. You will need a 4wd and need to check the height of the river before crossing.
-
On the Turon or Macquarie rivers down below Hill End along the bridal track is nice. Unfortunately the track is still blocked at monaghans bluff so you would need to go around the tar road to Hill End and drop down onto the river from there but it's a nice drive.
Alternatively you could camp along the Macquarie on the Bathurst side of monaghans bluff.
Cheers

Might be a bit far, but Ben Boyd camping ground at Kanangra Boyd NP is a nice one (Just south of Oberon) great walks and stunning views over the blue Mts.

SJ.
The Wyangala Dam, just out of WOODSTOCK (isn't free.).
But there is a Caravan Park there. South East of Orange. N.E. of Cowra.
Probably at your limit of 1 Hr. travelling too.

BHG post pics of the rack when ya get it.
Crusier105Tvan Thanks.
Macca thanks

There is a free camp site at Burraga Dam, SW. from Black Springs, spent a pleasant night there a couple of weeks back, and it fits your hour from Bathurst criteria
-
Gonna be in Bathurst for a bit so will try most camp sites. Thanks swaggers

You can still accesss best of Bridle Trail via Root Hog crossing firetrail. Intersects Macquarie river from the west, and regains Bridle just north of the landslide. Then go north a few kays to Mary Flynn Reserve. Cross the Turon to a perfect site with private swimming/fishing hole beneath the cliffs. Recommended. Watch your wheel placement in the very rocky Turon crossing. I dinged my trailer under carriage cause I was too lazy to walk the deeper part and missed a large rock that needs be steered around.

Headed away Saturday night, brought 11 bags of wood as we have no chainsaw available due to ute full of work gear. Bags of wood is not ideal. Burn way too quick. Must try to find a garden centre for firewood. Ute load may do it >:D
We camped 3km out of Sofala on the Turon river, just before the river crossing.
Was dark and getting thirsty after a day of work. ;D
Bit of drizzle and cold when away from fire but all went well.
Note to self buy cork screw for bottle of 09 red. >:(
Looks like I will be here till September so will be camping most weekends
