Title: Flexible folding solar panels
Post by: Desert Campers on June 10, 2014, 04:01:35 PM
So I'm not that good with this technology and would love some lamans terms to help me out.  We're looking at solar panels to use with our camper trailer.  We have 3x100amp hour batteries in the CT.  We'll be getting a 57Ltr engel combi fridge/freezer. Currently have a Waeco 65Lt dual zone fridge/freezer but its too high to fit into our CT fridge slide, so trying to sell it. .....Anyone interested?? It's 6 mths old and used 4 times.

Anyway, back to solar panels.  We are restricted on space and weight, so we've been thinking about the fold up solar panels that pack into small canvas folds, not the ones with glass.  I have seen Projecta http://projecta.com.au/Products/TravelFriendlySolarPanelKits (http://projecta.com.au/Products/TravelFriendlySolarPanelKits) and Solar4RVs https://solar4rvs.com.au/portable-solar-panels.html. (https://solar4rvs.com.au/portable-solar-panels.html.)   We'll be running our Engel and some led strip lighting from it.   Occasionally charging up mobile phones and laptop.

Advice greatly appreciated!  We live in Alice Springs, therefore getting solar panels at reasonable prices is very hard, as we have to pay extreme delivery costs due to size and weight if we do online.  Otherwise we don't really have much selection to choose from out here.

Post a for sale advert for the Waeco in the classifieds section.

In regards to the solar panels, PM "Jetcrew" as he did some tests on them and is great for solar advice.

I bought a set of the Projecta folding panels from Jetcrew and a big thumbs up from me!!  :cup:

He set them up so I can use them with batteries that either do or don't have a regulator attached to them, they fold up quite compact, and work really well.

In short, I am very impressed with them.

If you order them very quick I can bring them up to Alice from Adelaide if you like - leaving in two weeks!!

X2. They're not the cheapest around but they're bloody brilliant

PS, Heading to Alice from Brissy in 12 sleeps so if you want I can cart them for you. Jetcrew is just up at Bribie.

I bought 2 of mandrakes 100w (each) flexible solar panels. Absolutely brilliant. At about 3mm thick you I can Slide them under the mattress and they take up next to no room at all compared to the heavy annoying 80w fold ups I had. The 100w panels are only about 2 kg each so are easy to handle. Google mandrakes solar

X45000000 billion on jetcrews ones. Which are the projecta ones.
I just spent 4 days with him and those panels and they are great. I already have a normal solar panel, which I got of jetcrew/mandrake, but an seriously considering at least a 80w projecta folding kit just to throw in the car, I mean it will fit under the drivers seat.

I bought the 120w panels from Jet. Do yourself a favour and give him a call. He is happy to offer advice, his service is top notch and the product is #1. They fold up to about the same size as an A4 folder and are as versatile  as anything.
