Thought I may tap in on the expertise of swaggers. I have a lengthy driveway and apron area in front of my 9 meter wide garage that is Lilydale topping. Been down for about 5 years and starting to have lots of stones and not so much of the solid top. Is there a way to rejuvenate that top or is my only option to top it up? Any advice appreciated. I would concrete it but it would (a) look ugly and (b) cost a motza. Thanks. Mac :cheers: :cheers:

Sounds like the lime has washed through two options are top it up or get a bobcat in in to scrap it over sort to bring the base back up. then relevel. A bit like mixing the lime back through the stone.
The lime will still be there but just washed threw the stone over the years.

I need to do this myself. I was also thinking of asphalt wet sealing it as the dust drives me crazy.

I saw that done on the Living Room one night. Not sure on the cost but may be a viable option once the rejuvenation has taken place. :laugh:

Ps How deep is the layer of toppings already there? That can also affect the quality of the lime beneath the rock too.

Bobcats are expensive, you can use a dingo digger yourself or even use a hand held rake and spade.
But when I layed some LT i sprinkled in a bag of cement. as said above, dig up and remix and you will also need to top it up a bit..
Think about concreting, it costs about $250 a meter here and is fairly easy to lay yourself, do it in small sections, of about 3m max. I think they have a min delivery amount.
Make sure you use REO for the diverway and about 75mm thick, hosestly it is fairly easy..
If any of your friends are concreting then offer to help them so you can learn some tips.
Plan to do it in about 6 to 12 months time, that will give you time to learn how to do it.

Have a look at my place. The landscaper came in and laid this fine gravel down which packs really hard IMO. Similar to Lilydale topping.
