Title: Camprite Knockoff
Post by: Burnsy on May 25, 2014, 03:49:24 PM
I guess this was always in the making but I shed a tear today at a local Ag show when I saw that someone has finally knocked off the camprite with what I suspect are import trailers .  Does not look like they have gone to any length to hide the fact and it is pretty much a direct copy.

On a side note, their dual axle tipping trailer was a nice unit.

I know of a friend's son who thought he had found on trading post a bargain Track Shack camper that the current owner supposively won as a prize, Turns out when he check the serial no with track shack it turns out to be a Chinese Knock off.

Found this just now for anyone that's interested http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/salisbury-south/camper-trailers/new-eagle-cheyenne-hard-floor-camper/1045788437 (http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/salisbury-south/camper-trailers/new-eagle-cheyenne-hard-floor-camper/1045788437)

I think I would rather the real deal to be honest if that's the price.

Two ads from same seller, one a "Dealer New" ad and another "Private Seller" selling a second hand one due to "Ill health"???

No affiliation, but from what I can gather Eagle Campers have quite a good reputation here in SA.  I've spoken with them at a couple of camping shows and they have been very up front with the gear that they are selling.  No idea about this particular model, but I'm guessing they have identified a market opening.

Guess its why I read in the news today the the Chinese Goverment has decided to demolish their replica of the s
Sphinx.

guess they dont want to be known as a population of copiers.

I can't comment on their camper trailers, but I do own a 7'x5' galvanised box trailer from Eagle trailers in Adelaide.
I wanted a small trailer for the farm and purchased it about 18 months ago.
Extremely well built bit of gear, eye to eye suspension, ALKO breaks , it literally is built like a brick sh!t house.

I am very impressed with this trailer.

It seems to be the way of the world now days. A Oz camper company does all the hard yards, R&D etc and gets a product on the market at maybe a slightly high price and then some other prick of a mob just copies it and undercuts them. Nearly all companies that sell imports from China are guilty of it, no names or pack drill because they can't cop the criticism. It gets right up my nose.

Not sure why you guys are surprised and upset. The cheaper chinese knockoffs have turned the lower priced camper market on its head and now there coming for the higher priced market.
All the leading Australian camper trailer manufactures such as KK, Aussie Swag, AOC and Camprite etc in the higher priced market should be very afraid.
We all want the Australian made quality without the Australian made price tag, myself included.
Once these Chinese camper manufactures get on top of the its quality control, look out.
Everybody in the late 80's would've bought a Australian Holden or ford over a Jap crap Toyota..... Or even a Hyundai in the early 90's
Not now.......
The same will happen with the Camper trailer industry......eventually.

Bought my First Car in 1972
A Toyota Coupe.  Still love that car.
Even if it was under-powered and had seats for midgets.

yeah im with CAMPA,china's quality control has turned it up 100%in the last few years,i mean u still get ur hit n miss items in a run but across the board the failing china parts are becoming less and there prices aren't reflective of this, which is great for our aussie made quality gear in the future which will have no choice but to bring the prices down down!

It'll certainly send some of our businesses to the wall, trying to match up in the market.
People being what they are, will only see the Dollars.
Not the quality, or Australian Made for Australians.
It's just a matter of time.

The Government Don't care.
They don't insist on value adding on Raw Materials.
They allow Overseas, Non resident Aliens, to own and derive profit from Australia.
Profits go overseas and we're no better off.
The Unions obviously don't care.
They are the basic reason why we're in this mess.
Always with the hand out for more.
That's why our cost of Living has gone through the roof.
Along with wages and costs of Producing Products in this country.

Sorry, slightly off topic.
Homebuilt and Campa dragged my hobby horse back out.

This is true to a point.  Not all Australian made products are "overpriced"  they are priced as they need to be for the business to cover wages, sick leave, annual leave loading, work cover, increasing superannuation, increasing petrol and freight costs, increasing electricity costs, increasing insurance costs etc etc etc and then to make a small profit so that the business owner can stay in business and keep the people employed.

You can't expect great wages and terrific conditions, (the majority of australians get paid for 12 moths and really only have to work for 10 if they used all their entitlements) so that you can buy cheap imported goods.  Who is looking after the jobs in Australia.  Didn't I read on this forum recently about a camper business in Queensland closing up??  At some point we are all responsible and should try wherever possible to buy Australian.

Consider this ......if you think it is too dear would you be willing to take a pay cut to make it more affordable? The highest cost to a business is wages.  It is a vicious circle and many more businesses, especially the little ones that employ a lot of people around the country, will close their doors.

Not wanting to start an argument but this is what it comes down too........

Hi All,

First post so take it easy please.  I have my first camper on order,  Just happens to be a TX6 from Camprite,  We have dropped in and seen the Chinese rip off. I have to say Camprite have nothing to fear at the moment,  I'm not too sure what canvas they use but it feels thin and cheap, the quality of finish is the same as what is in the pictures  -rippled sides and all. I would think a 10 year old camprite would be worth more IMO.

Lee.

Welcome Lee, a new TX6 is certainly a great way to enter the camper fraternity. Have fun with it, Camprites are great, mine is 14 years old and still going strong.

Hi Burnsy,

I hope it will,  we have been hiring campers for years now, I think it's time we made an investment.
