G'day guys and girls
My wife and I are currently in the process of researching buying a camper trailer. What at first seems like an easy subject gets quickly overwhelming with how much information is available and out there. All that Internet searching brought me to here. We haven't been much into camping before but with three kids between 2 & 8 we thought it would be a great way to see this country as a family and get the kids away from all the technology these days. We have recently upgraded my trusty old ss commodore to a LTZ colorado in preparation and are all ready enjoying getting out exploring along the coast.
Our budget is going to be between 10 - 15k. Our list of things we are looking for is Australian built trailer, kids room, decent kitchen and a 12v system that will allow us at least a week at a time off the grid sort of speak. Still haven't decided if I want the fridge in the camper or 4wd as I don't plan on keeping this collie for more then another year or so as the wife prefers and auto so will update at the end of my lease and kit it kitted out with dual battery etc then. After reading countless reviews and looking around shows I seem to keep going back to the Aussie jays crusher. Seems like fantastic value for money. Anyway enough of my rambling. Look forward to learning more of you guys and this is a fantastic place you have here. Full of great info
Cheers Scott

Welcome Scott,
Good luck with your search for a CT, so much to take in your head will be spinning, great excuse for a beer!!!
Anyway once you decide it will only get better when your out there camping.
We have the Auto in the Colorado and the wife loves it, Took a while as she thinks it's a truck but all good now.

Thanks Rob, Yeah there has already been a few beers and bourbons consumed during research lol. My Collie is a 2012 so its the 5 spd manual. The new 6 spd is much better but I don't like the high clutch point in them off road. New one will be auto and have the niceties such as reversing cam etc
Welcome to myswag Scott. Good luck with your search for a CT.
Happy camping0

Thx KB, Your threads have provided lots of good reading. Maybe its a sign, the aussie jays crusher went on sale for $1,900 less yesterday. Now to convince the minister of finance

Well finally ordered our new trailer. We ended up with a new MDC V4 TBOX. It ticked all the boxes we need at the moment and couldn't pass the $. Yep I know its a cheaper trailer and there is better out there however going over it with a fine tooth comb the quality of the trailer was pretty good and I can live with a few extra poles when we set up. As this is our first camper, It also saves taking too deep a plunge for the family to turn around in 12 months and say they hate it. There is a few little things I will tidy up with it but its a good base and if need be we can upgrade if needed in a few years when the kids are older and we have time to explore this country more.
One question though I need advice on what solar panel size to get. I've just ordered a 100amp deep cycle to in the trailer as it didn't come in the deal. The trailer will have an Evakool 60lt fridge and a Korr 4 bar light set running. Im an elec newb so what size panel would be best to get to allow me 4/5 of power
Thanks again
Scott

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum, good to see another who lives in gods country.
I have a 140W panel that supplies a 50lL fridge,LED lights !water pump & charges phone & tablet with no problem.
You could get away with less but can't have to much. There will be heaps of people who can tell you how to calculate useage.

A belated welcome to the forum, mate.
The MDC CT that I was looking at all last year looked to be well built, and the price is hard to go past for the equipment level and build quality. Congrats on your purchase. Hope that it gives you many years of pleasure and service.
