Hi all - I'm after some advice on canvas.  Is 14oz canvas (not rip stop) any good?? .. I've read that some say that canvas without rip stop is better.   I'm seriously considering buying a hard floor camper.  The canvas looks good, double stitched, seems are sealed with some tape type finish and it feels pretty good and tough.  But, it is not rip stop!! - Opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated!! .. Thanks!!

What brand camper is it.
Is the canvass made here in Australia?
The canvass tent on my camper trailer is made here in Australia and it is 15oz walls and 12oz for the roof.
Rip stop canvass you will find is the type of canvass generally found on imported tents.  Rip stop canvass is not bad, it is generally lighter than Australian made canvass.

I have used Waxcon Billabong and Coolabah on my camper and they are a poly cotton blend. Very strong, very waterproof straight off the roll without seasoning treatment. The reason for seasoning is the thread used to sew it together. I used a polycotton blend which is strong but expands through the cotton blend, to block the needle holes.

Hi Kez

In my experience if it has twin seams and tape over the seams it would be imported canvas , Aussie made would most like use 12oz on a hard floor and also Aussie canvas does not come generally in 14oz. Hope this helps if you require any more help just let me know.

Speakin with bloke at Ozzie campers during the week, theres 12oz and 12oz..
There are ways to make crappy canvas weigh more for the measuring..  thus how some of the extremely lightweight feeling ones are said to be 16oz canvas but we all know it aint...

Thanks everyone for your comments - I should of mentioned it is a Camptime camper that we're considering and yes it is chinese canvas - but, we're looking at the low end of the market and trying to get the best value for our dollar .. again, comments and suggestions are very much welcomed as we've never been down this road before.
