Title: ARB SWAG
Post by: rosifumi on May 01, 2014, 02:52:44 PM
GUys

I did a search and not a lot come up, I'm looking buy a swag and have the double arg swag in mind with the current discount from the rose hill show. Question is though, when googling some guys had said they had problems with leaking swags and I'm wondering if they're past it. Other option is to buy the Roo systems darche one.

Has anyone bought one recently and when packaged up are they a small unit ? as the darche one fits in a canvas bag maybe 700 long?
Cheers

My daughter n B/F have a ARB and they have now had 2 lots of the dome hoop poles snap ,1 st lot were fibreglass ,2nd lot aluminium, both broke whilst just being set up but not being used, they haven't tried the 3rd set. A friend got a Roo swag by Darche and his poles also broke on the 1st trial set [aluminium],he took it straight back and got a refund.
I was at the show the other day and had a look at the Travelander swag that looked good,I payed attention to the poles which seem a good size but not sure on the wall thickness.,price seemed reasonable.
Myself I have had a Southern Cross swag for about 9 years now used often and not an issue, just like my 20plus year old S/C  tent. Not sure on the current price but if it was only a $100 extra then I would go S/C.
You can find a good review of swags here

Southern Cross Canvas double dome swag. They should be at the show. Yes they will be more expensive than the ARB, however buy once and buy for life.

Also sleep soundly knowing you bought from an Ozzy manufacturer who is using Ozzy wax converters canvas.

Hi - I bought a Darche Dusk to Dawn double swag and used it for 10 nights over Christmas - it rained heavily on 2 of those nights and never leaked. My boys used it 2 weekends ago and it rained again and no problems. The canvas and poles see to be good quality.
Regards,
TC

I have a Burke & Wills (single). Really happy with quality. Spent last weekend at Eildon and Saturday night was cold. Snug as a bug. No leaks and very comfy. Aussie made.

There are a lot of reviews of swags on google. I went with a cheap $120 Extra large single swag from eBay. I figure I only use it about 5 nights a year on fishing or boat trips, and I don't normally camp in the rain (it doesn't rain here).

We've got a single and a double ARB swags, we've used them heaps in the last year and never had a drama with leaks or poles.  We used them for over a week straight on our Fraser trip, moving every night and no dramas.  The double swag is long when rolled up, but well worth the space!

What are the measurements of the swag rolled up?

Thanks

Yep, same here. Big thumbs up for the double ARB swag, never had a problem and heaps of room inside. I think the measurements for the swag are on the ARB web site.

I have one of these and I can tell you it is the best IMO.

Onland Swag (Australian made)

They are not the cheapest, but the best.

Worth every cent, I spend 100 nights approx per year in a swag. I have tried them all, and I mean the fair majority of top brands that are available, including the recent Kulkyne copies. Southern Cross Canvas are by far the best made and designed swag I have used during my 20 years career. I am lucky to get 12 months - 2 years out of some brands.

I put mine on a stretcher now days so I don't have to sleep on the ground, awesome. When camping with the family I generally sleep in my swag and leave them to the Kimberly.

They cost a bit more up front, however you will be better off in the long run.

As you get older, over 25. You get to realise that getting into some Swags is a problem.
Getting out of them is even more of a problem.
The Southern Cross Dome Swag, looks to be, as good as you'll get.
