Hit the quote button on top right, and just delete everything in the quote except the bits you want to keep.
As an example, I've quoted your original post but deleted some of it:

Can't see how to highlight part of a reply

Make sure you keep the
at the end.
Hope this makes sense ;D

As an example your original post deleted some.

Does this work?

And when you insert your comment.
Type it in before or after the quote markers.

As an example,

Does this work?

{quote author=Tareepato link=topic=36720.msg591369#msg591369 date=1398151594]
As an example,

Does this work?
[/quote}

Leave all the first part of the quote and the last quote just delete the subject matter you dont need

i changed the square brackets at the start and finish on the second quote so it would print as normal and show you what I deleted, you must leave all the first quote and last quote, hope it makes sense

Most forums use [ ] around the word "quote" to open the quote then [/  ] around the word "quote to close it again so if you muck up deleting the unwanted part of what you want to highlight put the [ ] back in.

Can't see how to highlight part of a reply to just answer that portion.

The code for this looks like:
Can't see how to highlight part of a reply to just answer that portion.
