Hi Everyone,
so it's been a while coming, and what better time to release when those people unable to go away for easter can jump online.
We've launched the initial release of Tripigy! (http://www.tripigy.com (http://www.tripigy.com))
Please note this is an initial launch, and we probably won't be taking it offline, but there is massive amounts of data missing (currently being approved, but as you can imagine there is over 10,000 POI's and another 25,000) so it's alot of work.
There is lots happening over the coming months, and you will see constant updates and releases.
We're always open to feedback, so please feel free to send any comments to support@tripigy.com.
Cheers

I was your first Facebook like!
Have invited about 20 others.
Looks good. Will grow quickly.

Hi Mace,
thanks for the kind words. There's so much to do, and we've got guys helping out with content. Pictures are the hardest part, and although we have a DB with over 10,000 POI's in it, they have to be cleaned, sorted, viewed, updated and fixed as well as formatted etc.
It's all about the quality of the data with us, so it's important to get it right. Thats why we are slowly launching the data, the platforms will go live (with a possible few bugs) but we are getting them fixed as we find them..
Cheers
Justin

I've had a look around. It seems good. I will have to pull my finger out to add my pics and places
-
Looks good, pretty polished for an early release!!
-
hi jasman,
thanks for that. Well it's been through 3 different UI versions..! Driving me insane. We didn't want to release until such time as we were "happy" with the UI. The database can be released over time, the UI once it's out there it's hard to take back.
JD
-
Nice clean, intuitive, fast UI :)
The popular places per region map probably needs a zoom. It's a bit hard to focus on an area in VIC being so small.
I'm not a fan of the mastercard, visa & paypal images bottom right corner. They're not linked, what's their purpose, and look a bit amateur compared to the rest of the imagery.
-
thanks D4D.. yeah i have asked the guys about changing that map. It's a little tricky, we maybe need to have a 2 stage, i.e select a state and then zoom into the state.
I agree about the logos they serve no purpose, i think they were from an initial build and just carried over..
(i think if you remember the version you saw was very different (i think you saw UI.2)

Yeah 2 stage map would work
I can vaguely remember the version I saw, I was under the influence of uncle Jack :)

I just had a look at the site , looks good.I registered then searched the group section, but there is no "myswag" group. Why not? I didn't want to push my luck since I'm only learning the ropes ??? Can we please have a "myswag" group. :cup:
Just looked. I'm a 'sleeping bag user '. When did that happen ? ???
-
Had a look and registered, good job
-
Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Yes the plan is to have a myswag group so we can keep things stored and a link to the main myswag site.
The benefit is there will be calendars etc which you can link up etc.
-
This is something to watch , but , Please Explain ??? ??? ??? :-[
What in the Sam Hell is Tripigy or A Tripigy
Thank goodness it ( what ever it is ) , has been released Live
Is this some boffin BS to astound us all with magic
Hopefully somebody will tell us what is the meaning of all this , in the mean time l shell have

hi speewa,
so yes ive been enjoying some glasses by the fire tonight. of wine that is...
anyhow tripigy is a project ive been working on for the last 18 months. its purpose is to connect and share people with the great outdoors for free. thats right there is now a place where you can create a profile and plan your trips where you can enjoy your
although weve only launched an initial desktop version there is so much more to come, the benefit for yourself speewa would be you can plan your trips, at the same time work out what the weather will be when you go so you know if you will get wet
plus much more, you can even write up a review on whether you think its a good drinking place.
you could even start your own connections (friends) and let them know when you are going away or even post to twitter or facebook, so you have more drinking buddies on your trip. or you might start using the trip active tracking feature so you can checkin on your arrival (so that we all know to stay away from that area... only joking speewa we want to know where your camping..)

Great concept. Everyone wants a blog to show their trips etc and here it is all in one place. :cup:

Password strength may be a killer for some... Upper, lower, numerical & #$%*. Though some on here are quite adept at the latter.
Clicked on a recent activity and got a Oops..
and when you click on the Mobile app menu item it says you have to be a higher account type and tells you to check your account status. Should point you to Account Type, not Account Status as there is no option under Account Status to change your account type.
Minor glitches I'm sure will be ironed out as you go.
-
Hi Noel,
thanks for the feedback (everyone thats what it is about at the moment. FEEDBACK!). I'm super keen to here what you think and what we can change.
The oops for the activity was an issue (on one of them) which has been fixed. Another oops is given as Austartar has locked his trip view, (which i need to get the guys to dig deeper why it was chosen to be displayed maybe it was done after setup?)
D4D the icons are gone :) I did that one it was simple.
The Mobile oops button is definately something we know about as the mobile platform is still a few weeks away from initial launch.
Account status/type i think is a good idea thanks noel, we will play with that a little.
Also for all those that have emailed in comments and praise thanks very much.
Cheers
Justin
-
D4D the icons are gone :) I did that one it was simple.
;) when the mobile apps are done, maybe use that position for the hotlinks to them...
-
yeah the plan was also to (1) autodetect if possible, secondly use the main bar across the top.. maybe can also link down the bottom.
The mobile platforms are all WebApps (that can install) onto the mobile device and act/think like mobiles, but you don't pay for them so they will just install.
Had an interesting chat with Aurigma yesterday in the US, as we are looking at using them for additional custom image uploading for large images on mobile devices...
-
Firefox are there any thoughts as to a single click remember me type of log in ...for us lazy so n so's that find it a pain to type user names and passwords each time ....
-
hi edz, most definitely, though it didn't come in the initial public release, but it's already built and will be enabled.
So yep it's there, you won't need to login once you've already approved a device or desktop.
-
Noel, are you sure about the password strength, I used a numeric one that I use for other stuff and it worked ok,
Looks good so far Firefox, must be an enormous amount of work, way, way above my head
macca
-
Signed up. I also used a password without special characters and was accepted . My mistake didn't read carefully and went to rectify but had been accepted.
Great site and congrats . Huge undertaking and I am sure will be appreciated.
-
I've entered a few specific location searches without success, so obviously heaps of places need to be added to make the location search more user friendly. That will take some time no doubt.
The only thing I'd like to see is a function on the trip planner (similar to the elevation planning function) where you can drag the track line to alter the journey route. Or at the least a put in a "via" function to facilitate variations.
All good though.
Have you got a list of destinations you need covered ?
-
Hi Justin,
Congratulations on Tripigy, love the amount of information provided about each site. Is it possible to add onroad and offroad caravans to the filter list please as sometimes a place that is suitable for motorhomes isn`t always suitable for caravans.
Cheers, Robyn.
-
Hi Robyn and everyone,
thanks for that a great idea, i am sure we can add that, and we also know about this in a site notes. We are keeping alot of data on each site, there is actually quite a bit missing on the display page and alot of entries as we will approving content and checking updating as we go.
Thanks for the feedback.
-
Hi Robyn
To clarify what firefox said earlier. If it isn't suitable for caravans or is suitable for off road vans only, it will be clearly detailed in the sites description and is highlighted in bold or larger text.
Same as, if it's got a difficult access or route to get there, it will also be detailed in the site description. Hope this helps :D
To everyone…. Thanks for the feedback! We will be continually improving the site and every bit helps us discover what people are looking for.
Thanks Mrs Firefox
-
Thanks Guys, Keep up the good work :cup: Robyn
-
Justin, congratulations certainly quite easy to navigate around
-
Just wait to you all get to see the mobile platform.
I was playing with the direct photo upload from your mobile today. Very cool, as u can send photos up to a trip or blog, and then upon return order prints or even create a hard cover book with all your trip details and pictures in it.
It's extremely cool.
-
I just signed up JD! Looks great may have found another web site to get me off Myswag..... :D
-
Looks a ripper. Bloody work is getting in the way of me playing with the website!
Maybe lunch time.
-
Great site, especially once I figured out the different search pages. Is it possible to have one search page with an option to search by name or location, rather than the two pages?
Not that I need it but would it be worth adding Wheelchair Access as a facility?
Bunyip
-
Hi Guys.
thanks for the feedback, yes we are looking at "other" search style pages, especially in the mobile platform. I.e search by name of place, search by a region, search by a location etc.
As for the wheelchair, there is an filter for "disabled access" only locations that have the ability to support (or claim) to be wheelchair friendly have this option.
Cheers
JD
-
Sorry about that Firefox. Too much screen time is doing my eyes in apparently, perhaps I need to get out and about a bit more :)
-
Hi Firefox, how has the trip planning function been working, i had a couple of goes while on the road but will give it more time at home. I had trouble adding additional destinations for a multitrip.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
hmm, we discovered a few quirks there, but nothing critical so there are a few things, however can you dig deeper and let us know how you go.
I believe a multi trip is working.?

Great job Justin, very clever. ;D
After logging in this morning, I noticed that when you hit places, trips, blogs, groups, friends, tools the drop down box is hard to read as it gets hidden by the front page. Does that make sense? Apologies if someone has already pointed this out. Cheers

hi Fuji,

We'd like to try and replicate.

Hi Justin, If I put in my postcode it comes up as in Luxemburg, ??? works fine with Harrington.
-
I am in Belgium
-
Yeah we've identified this as an issue. The engine uses a reverse geocode from google. We're currently trying to work out if we can "FORCE" it to only use AU locations instead of global.
The find a place location was the only engine that doesn't use our internal Geo spatial platform. (as we don't have all the locations listed..) it's an issue and were definately going to have a fix on it before the next release..

Hi Guys, just an FYI we're offline tonight now for major server upgrades. Need to deploy some new servers and get some more ram :)..
Mobile platform as a BETA release should be this week. I'll keep those watching up to date.
Cheers

So for all those playing around (and there's alot of you) and the team tripigy member's.. We've been doing a bit behind the scenes.
Fixed a number of the bugs, things like (typing texas) now shows texas australia and not the USA..
Fixed so you can now blog without the need to have a trip plan.
Plus much much more.
We're working hard on the User Interface and you will see lots of changes. We've also deployed additional servers to handle the load which is nice, so it should be a little faster.
Now for those interested the ALPHA release of the Mobile Platform is available.
On your Mobile device you can go to http://mobile.tripigy.com (http://mobile.tripigy.com) (from there you can save this to your desktop as a home app) on all devices.
People will love the mobile platform as it has the new authentication model, which means authenticate once only! (Yipee)
I should note the mobile platform is in ALPHA (for those that don't understand this) it means that its in very early release. The functionality is mostly there, BUT the User Interface is requiring major updates. THe good news if you save it to your home screen as an APP you will get live updates all the time.. (so no need to update).
Feel free to have a play around, the Mobile platform i figured is for people to play with. The Tablet edition (which has full screen map view and lots of cool features to use whilst in the car travelling) is nearly done as well. It has similar features to the Mobile platform.
Enjoy.
Cheers

Hi Everyone,
So yet again the MYSWAG family gets the first taste at the new platform.
There's been alot going on, unfortunately probably not enough, but all good things take time.
I'm excited to announce the release of the Tablet Edition of Tripigy. This has been built with a new UI, lots of new mapping features as well as a number of additional features not seen in the other 2 User Interfaces.
The tablet interface is best viewed on a Tablet in Landscape mode, but can also be used on the desktop. (and i am betting because of the new MAP UI.. people will use it on the desktop alot.. for research.)
Also this now includes single sign-on, so you'll only ever need to logon to it once..
You can load it right now (still in a public beta) but completely usable..
http://tablet.tripigy.com (http://tablet.tripigy.com)
Even better on your tablet, you can add this as a home screen app. And it loads in a full native screen interface. If you don't know how to add a homescreen app let me know.
Feel to free to play around, we've also removed a number of "painful" features after feedback, and we've also added a number of nice new photo and other features.. So much more to come...
PLUS ;D
You'll never need to update this app on your tablet.! Yep the updates are all pulled live.. So as you features come live you will be able to see them. Note: that Tripigy is a Internet based solution, you need an Internet Connectivity to use Tripigy on any device (it's not offline), but plans over time will come for this.
-
Must confess to not understanding a lot of what you write about this flash web site you made but I'm thinking it looks great. Lots of features I don't understand, the important bit of typing an address and then lots of places showing up is great. I get that OK.
I hope you can make a few $ out of it.

Our apps are what they call web apps.
View them in your browser on the tablet then click the add bookmark. There will be an option to add it to your home screen. This will add an icon to your desktop like a normal app. It will also run like a normal app then.
We decided on this approach, as you can run it on any device. Yes you are correct you can even run the site on your desktops.
-
Thanks mate.
I'm new to this tablet stuff but enjoying it immensely

Seems to work on my old lap top with XP on it. ;D
-
Hey daver thanks for that I don't think we ever tested that. But in theory it should work. The reason for taking the webapp approach was exactly that. You are not limited by the technology you run.
We've found some bugs in the my trips section which we need to look into with the devs, btw.
-
Seems to work on my old lap top with XP on it. ;D
Thats great to know. My old laptop has XP as well, but work like me to call it my "work" laptop. Apparently it is still good for another 4 to 5 years so just keep adding bandaids to it to keep it going.....
When I get home from work I will try it on my Surface pro tablet and see how it goes. Thanks for the update Firefox.
-
Great stuff Justin, thank you.
-
good news, devs this morning found the my trips bug (was a backend server issue) so thats fixed now..
-
Thanks mate, just added to my homescreen on the iPad.
-
Typo on the front page:
Tripigy - You're Outdoor adventure starts now
Should be Your.
-
Hi Guys,
for those starting to use Tripigy on and off, all our Interfaces now have single sign-on to each interface.
When logging on, just click the save for this device/desktop.. You'll never get asked again unless you logout.
Note: you will also need to logon at least once in each interface. It's not shared across the tablet interface or Web/Mobile.
Few other updates and bug fixes gone in, please feel free to keep letting us know of issues.
Database is growing each day.
Cheers

So... It was June and we announced our release to the wider public and myswag members.
Today we've been working really hard with a bunch of guys to upgrade the servers and launch the new site. So guess what it's LIVE! and ready to go and best of all FREE!.
There's going to be so much more for those friendly Myswaggers out there.. But for now i'll post into this thread just to let everyone know.
So we've launched a completely rebuilt web framework. (http://www.tripigy.com (http://www.tripigy.com))
We've also released an interim tablet interface that runs in the browser (http://tablet.tripigy.com (http://tablet.tripigy.com))
And yes we have (NATIVE) apps being launched into the Google Playstore and Apple Store. (Android should be there in the next few hours.)
We are so excited about this current release, but even better is whats coming. All those cool, awesome features are on their way over the coming 2 months. And we are just so excited because it will help everyone get out and enjoy the great outdoors.
Feel free to post any questions to me, and i will try and answer them. As you can imagine we're getting through most issues and the content behind Tripigy has now significantly grown.
We will also be running some competitions soon to win prizes including trip's as well as gadgets etc.
Hope you've been enjoying a weekend away and you've just got back.! (Time to upload a blog onto tripigy and tell others ;D)

It wouldn't open using the 'mobile' http address on my android. I have registered but couldn't login on my phone.
In the app store the app is $2.49, so i guess now it can't be used in the phone browser and the app has to be brought to use it?
-
hi moose, yes you are correct. there is small fee for the native app. the platform has cost over 40,000 to build. the web site tech which is fully features is free. and we recommend registration online.
at the moment the native apps do not need user accounts, however we will be releasing another version on friday that has some of the user features. there is about 5 major feature releases to be done on the app.
The web technology will always stay 100% free and the apps in the stores will be a very small fee.
Apologies if there was some confusion.
We decided to set a very low fee on the apps at the moment, as there is basic functionality. However if you grab it now you will get all the features as the updates come through. By december all the core functionality will be there.
-
Ummmmm.
How do I drive it?
Is there a guide for complete numpty's?
I was trying to put a post code in, then have a map view and look around the areas. Obviously, I am doing the most simplest of things wrong, but umm, How?
-
ok there is 3 search options on the web site.
first is places by name i.e you can type a name
second is by suburb, if you start typing a suburb it will auto fill.
third is by map (i.e show by map)
if i am a betting man, you havent found the menu up the top. next to the tripigy logo is a 3 bar burger menu. (very common on sites now) this is the menu on all the things you can do..
Let me know if that helps?
Cheers
Justin
-
Ooooh, well look at that, the numpty's button. Now I found it.
Sweet
Thanks

with the ios version, it is ipad compatible, but optimised for the iphone. does this mean it will run, but appear in a small size on the ipad screen like other apps that say they are compatible?
-
Hi Firefox, great program :cup: Are you planning a Windows Phone app?
-
Hi guys,
Yes iOS will run on iPhone. Get the app now, we are building the full universal app which has an awesome mapping and viewing experience for iPad. This should be live in about 3-4 weeks depending on the devs.
Windows app is coming also should be early February. at the moment people are just using the web, but we are behind significantly in mobile development due to our old developers. But the features planned will be identical to the current web plus so much more.
I know everyone is going to love it.
Hopefully this week we will also launch laundries around Australia. A place to find out where to wash your clothes.
-
Are boat ramps a part of the app Firefox?
-
Hmm,
So Paul that's gone through internal debate within tripigy about 5 times. The "other" guys list boat ramps but they've become a overnight rest area for most. We work alongside the councils and cmca and others to be legal. So we've not loaded boat ramps.
In saying that it's something we can bring into the services dataset. Like toilet dumps, fuel stations, laundromats etc.
I get the feeling people want this? Is this the case. I'm not taking a boat around so it hasn't been a big thing. In saying that we have a reasonable list of boat locations so I think we could bring it online pretty quickly.
What's everyone's thoughts?
-

as someone who also swag/boat/fishers, yes from me for boat ramps.
-
hi silvo,
yes the app is compaitable with iPad and yes it just runs like an iphone in the ipad window.
The good news, is when we release the universal app in jan, this will use the full screen/layout of ipad and it will just download as an update.

thanks mate, probably the only other thing, can you download the data and use it offline?
-
Hi guys,
The data is cached as you go, so when you've viewed it it will save it.
However the app is not offline as such once again I expect this to be a feb release timeframe for full offline, at the moment it's like everything else.
Offline maps are our problem but something we are working around.

Just letting everyone know about a release on the facebook site.. (If you're not following us on facebook head over to www.facebook.com/tripigy (http://www.facebook.com/tripigy)) as we put all our announcements online...
Just a short announcement today for those on the road and looking at or using our web platform. We've just loaded (and now available for web) the laundromats around Australia. Although we know we don't have every single one, there are over 2000 laundromats now listed in our services database.
So if you're on the road and need to find a laundromat nearby to do some washing, look no further then the Tripigy Services portal.
In our next release of the Mobile platform due in about 2 weeks this will include the ability to view laundromats.
From the Tripigy Team, we'd like to wish all our users and friends a very safe and happy new year for tonight!
Also just as an FYI, to continue the Myswagger love, we've ensured that the pricing on the apps is the lowest the stores will allow (99c ex gst)... The above laundromats update is for the web, but it's coming to be displayed in the mobile app in the next few weeks, with so many other mobile updates.
-
Are you an Android User?
Finally after lots of mucking around we've just launched the most recent release of Tripigy For Android (new IOS waiting to be approved). Although it's taken a long time, we've been fixing so many things we think you're going to like it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.tripigy.android.mobile
This release especially for android fixes allot of things! Mostly bug fixes are in place which we've now tested on nearly every android device in OZ and they seem to work. We also support older Android phones now and we also support IOS 7 when it's available in the apple store. You can download these updates as free updates if you own the app.
Some of the changes in this release.
* Users Favorites List
* Users Wishlist View
* Write Reviews for Places
* New Menu Design and basic screen layout for better device support
* Quicker Map loading on Android and better rendering of icons and quicker speed to the API
* Support for IOS 7+
* Support for Android 13+ (was originally 17+)
* Basic Support for Tablets! Yes that's right full screen display on tablets
* Image Gallery now support landscapes
* Much Quicker UI and smoother
* New Filters and Search Options Available
* General Bug Fixes and Enhancements
As you can see there's allot that's happened, and there's plenty more, we should have our full Offline Edition available soon which will incorporate a full view for Tablets as well.
We apologize for the delay, unfortunately we had huge issues with the previous developers and we've had to find some better ones. On top of this we still working through cleaning up the App and making it faster, better. We're really excited about our new Offline Maps they look fantastic.!
If you're keen you can like us on facebook, or leave us feedback on the Android Store! Hopefully we've fixed alot of things so it's all good feedback ;D, but we always want to know how we can make it better. Our mobile release has been terrible due to poor developers but we think we've fixed all that.
-
Keep up the great work - looking forward to the iOS upgrades for the tablet :)
-
i also have the prototype of the offline mapping for tablets. We are moving the platform (always was going to be) as an offline/online platform. You will be able to have all your favourites/wishlist and maps and places offline (like all the other apps). but will also have all the online components and social side of things, including blogging/trip planning etc that is not available anywhere else.
Unfortunately we got way behind the ball with developers going bust! Caused grief..
Anyhow i'll let everyone know when the IOS is released to the store, the Android is available right now.

Hi thanks Noel-w, apologies I hit the wrong button, have sent an PM as I really like to understand the weirdness on the camera upside down.
Keep the feedback coming.
Cheers

You talking about the ipad and posting/linking upside down photos? Yeah, very annoying

Yeah the server has to read the EXIF data which tells us which way the image should be. Typically it may look upside down on the device but should load correctly on the server.
I'm going to look a little further maybe some update we did to the native packages changed things.
Cheers

Spent a bit of time having a poke around the site this morning ... its coming along nicely.

Hey guys,
in relation to photos, it seems that if you use the back camera on a device for some reason the EXIF data is really weird? This is only on Android (just tested on IOS and is fine on all).
Just an FYI the photo when it renders will sometimes display weird, its the way the device works, but once you click the update profile button the image should upload fix itself and re-align. I've found a bug on some androids (only on my S5) which if using the back camera it crashes, which i am going to file a bug right now with the devs, to see if we can get it fixed.)
I'm very excited about the next release coming in a few weeks, it will be our first totally offline capable platform, you will be able to download maps and use the platform disconnected. But will gain additional features if you're connected..
Cheers

I have been using it a bit, and I have found it to be great. Offline maps will be great. I'll be doing another 2 week trip to Alice, and Uluru over Easter , so will be using the app.
Probably the real power comes with reviews of campsites, so it really up to users to get it going.

I didn't announce it here but a significant amount of our locations now have massive reviews. As we've partnered with TripAdvisor. The nice thing about that is TripAdvisor really manage the quality of their reviews. So we still have our own tripigy users but have extended this to reviews as well as nearby restaurants and attractions.
Not all places have this but most commercial places have them.
Reviews are something that is a real challenge it's the problem with other services is the reviews are just not accurate so people can't trust them. It's something we are working on in regards to a reputation system, hopefully something connected with TripAdvisor. And some other cool things we have underway in the background.
