Title: Weigh in......before hitting the sand
Post by: weeds on April 13, 2014, 07:18:16 PM
Heading to moreton Island in the morning so thought I would run the rig over the weigh bridge........I'm pretty nervous about getting the trailer across to the eastern beach so figured I should know what I'm dealing with

Just me in the car, the only things to pack is three kids and cloths so maybe another 200kg

4.06 car and trailer
2.92 car + tow ball weight
1.14 trailer..........apparently you needs brakes over 750kg
2.80 car, expected to be 3.0-3.1 tomorrow (GVM is 3.2)

I'm a little surprised as I thought the car and trailer would have been heavier

Do you have brakes? You're well over 750kg.

I towed our 1500kg on the western beach up to Bulwer and back on the first leg of our around Aus trip and the V6 Prado had no probs. the road to Eastern beach was pretty rough but not soft.

Yeah, it was a breeze.....cruised over, didn't even look like having to get the maxtrax or waffle boards or the thousands of meters of winch rope I packed in......

Drove around a few 200 series towing Kimberly's....... bogged to their eyeballs, wasn't you was it Bully??

The police had the breathalyzer out testing every driver as they come off the barge. To my surprise he bar was open at 9am and a few blokes were having a quite one on the way over.

Weather is crap......guess it's better than being at work

V8 Cruisers don't need to let their tyres down. They are that good!! ;D

Yes that is what I thought until last weekend up at Kinkuna,  after 3 hours off winching 2, 200 series up into the campsite. Like I told the cook, this is living. All tyres down to 18psi, but the beach was so soft we could not get any momentum. Broke 4 maxtrax and had to do a double up of the winch to get in. At least I know the new winch rope and extension is up for the task.
Bully

Seeing you're over where you are, it'll be worth having a sticky at the old Rous Battery down South. The track in is a bit hard to spot sometimes so it may be worth asking a ranger for directions (that is if they know ;D)
I don't know what Camel Rock's like at present but it can cause some angst at times.
Have a good time. I'm off to Fraser in the a.m. tomorrow.

Lol...good pickup, yes I'm probably slightly over, but at least I know what my weights are. 99% of travelers have a good guess at what they weigh

The bridge at works goes up and down in 20kg increments

Looking at some of the rigs on the barge I'm in good shape

So true most don't have a clue what their weights are, your one step ahead and also unlike most others you were surprised how light your rig was..

The chucking up continued for three nights......at least he made it outside the tent for the second two.

Wendy was up late night having a chuck as well.....

Just cracked another beer so might skip on the coffee for the moment
