As we are going travelling and renting our house we are moving the contents we want to keep into storage. The problem we are having is finding a company that will insure them. The storage company has personal alarms setup and entry and exit codes. Our current insurer won't cover us once the contents are moved from the house. They won't see me again. NRMA would have if the contents were already insured with them. We had always been insured with NRMA till last year when we started shopping around because we thought they were to expensive. Has come back to bite us this year.
Anyone have any knowledge of companies who might cover our contents? :cheers:

Yeah we had a lot of problems 10 plus years ago when we stored stuff. I recall NRMA did but we were with CGU then, who at some time became owned by NRMA

Talk to the storage shed operator.
My complex has a floating policy that can be varied over the phone and the customers pays the amount based on the estimated value and wanted excess. Should be no problems.

We're storing a bit of stuff at Allied Pickfords, they provide acceptable ($$ wise) insurance cover.
The rest of our stuff is insured through APIA and whilst I've not discussed the sort of issue you're having with them, they've been quite flexible on other matters.

This may sound a bit strange but try SSAAIB, (Sporting Shooters Association of Australia Insurance Brokers). While they specialise in firearms and sporting/recreation activity insurance they are also a normal insurance broker as well, and are very flexible regarding storage etc.
Maybe they can help you, worth a phone call to find out.

When you are packing Chris take photos of every thing and keep on a disk with you just incase some thing does happen to your gear after the bundy floods my auntie and uncles storage shed got flooded we had to take photos of every thing before we dumped it.There were 40 people in the shed and only 3 people had insurance

Is it a complex with onsite operators or one of the old fashioned ones with no management and you just get given a key to the gate and put your own padlock on the shed?
If its the former they are just plain lazy.........not only that they are probably missing out on commission from the insurance company.

Rusty, if it floods so will Maroochydore and Mooloolaba. That is one thing we kept a look out for. Good idea though.
Thanks Mark66, I got it sorted this morning. Now to start moving stuff. Will br glad when next weekend arrives.
Lost, that was my next option. I was also told by 2 companies to ring the Insurance Council of Australia. They can put you in touch with companies that cover different conditions.
I agree with you Nomad. There are onsite operators, but it is new so maybe they are still feeling their way. :cheers:
