Hi all
last year I asked the question of where to live in or near the Gold Coast. Well, after much to dicking around it looks like we really like Pottsville and in particular Koala Beach Estate. It ticks a lot of boxes for us. Close to schools, beaches and about 40 to 50min to work for me.
Does anyone live around that area and if so pros and cons?
I hear a new woollies is opening.
cheers

My FIL lives down at Pottsville and its a great nice quiet area. Does get busy at school holidays with tourist but other than that I have always found it pretty quiet.
-
Would be one of my picks if I "HAD" to live in NSW. Would you be commuting to the Goldy? If so which end?
-
We lived in koala beach for 10 years (we have a house in stage 2). We've been on the road since June 2013 and have the house rented out.
It's a beautiful place to live, close to the beach, close enough to tweed and the gold coast while still having a small town feel. We love koala beach, the no cat and dogs rule makes for a quiet neighborhood loaded with wildlife. The down side if there is one, is you have to share the vegie patch with the possums, wallabys and birds, we had to build a fence around it so we got a look in.
Are you looking to rent or buy?
Cheers Kim.
-
the local bakery/coffee shop makes awesome chocolate eclairs
-
Cheers all. Will be up in three weeks to look for a place to buy. If nothing grabs me then will grab a block and build and rent in the meantime. I work at Southport and a workmate commutes to ballina each day so the ride can be shared. I have done a couple of test runs and it seems around the 45min average given various traffic volumes. The rents seem reasonable too. Have the boat booked for the final move of family and belongings on June 9 so will need something by then. cheers

Whatever floats your boat ;D ;D

And of course don't forget what is west of there. When the tourists do come ,head out to Mt warning, border ranges, Clarie Hall dam.
Love that stretch of coast and the mountains.
-
I'd be more than willing to attend an house warming & make sure that Broncos11 shares the prawns.
I may even be able to swing by with some Moreton Bay oysters!

Lol I'm not sure if he was just letting us know he sleeps with his sister, or he is offering his sister for us. I guess time will tell lmao

G'day Dazzler,
When do you move up?
Mrs T/B (TOPNDR/BTMNDR) & I arrive Devonport May 14 and should have signed a lease on a place at Carlton by Thurs/Fri this week.
-
Hi all and thanks for the offers of help and assistance!
TOPNDR we are on the boat on 9/6/14 and will nosy on up. I am flying back to hobart tomorrow so if you need anything befoe you get down just yell.
Good luck with the move. I think I like pottsville as its not that different to margate where we had our small property except much greener.
Bronco I will need a hand on real estate. I think I would like to build but if the right place come up I would grab it. I really like the Koala Beach estate being so close to the school and something about it just gels. The only thing that gets me is the huge differences in vacant land prices.
cheers

Nice place, you going to keep the vegie gardens?
-
We're across the road and down 2. (no.30 the house with the tree stump for a letter box)
Isn't Ray one of the nicest blokes you can meet! Congrats! You'll love it, we miss living there. We've thought about selling but not ready to let go yet, just in case we don't find anywhere as nice.
Good luck with the move! cheers Kim.

Dazzler, just reading this thread. Congrats on the new house. You won't be disappointed in Pottsville. Its a great little village, which gets over crowded in holidays, but the beaches and creeks are second to none. The people are friendly and very helpful. You are about 25 minutes to Byron Bay and about the same to Tweed Heads, and if you need to visit Surfers Paradise, its about 45. Border ranges National park is about an hour, plenty of discovering to be had. As you have read, there is a few of us around here, so would be great to catch up for a beer or three, after you get settled in. Cheers Frosty. :)
-
Congrats Dazzler.. :cup:
After you get settled in and sorted, looks like that rear deck can hold a few swaggers for a barbie ;D
If you need a hand with anything just ask..
-
That's a nice place you got there dazzler. As themissus said, we own down the road but currently have tenant's in. Its a great neighborhood, you'll love it.

Yep. Even MarkGU was too feral and they wouldn't let him in. Nice part of the world though and I'm looking for a fishing partner Dazzler, so hurry up and get up here. You'll just be in time for Tailor season.
-
Welcome to the best part of the Aussie coast mate. Look forward to a few shared brews
-
Yeah no cats or dogs. You can keep koala's on a leash so that will be fun.
Tailor fishing hey. We used to do that off Scott's Head with a piece of white elastic and four runs of gang hooks. Put pilchard in the elastic and cast away.
Is that how they still do it or does that invite a rogering from Mr Fisheries Man?

Ever since I managed a business at Burleigh in the 80's I've considered the Brunswick River the Qld/NSW border.

Truth be known, it may as well be QLD from Byron up as the NSW Govt's, that includes both parties, couldn't give a rats about the area as it's just too far away from Sydney. What happens on the Goldy and Brissie, not Sydney, affects us here. That's everything, business and commerce, sport, recreation etc.

Except for that great section of Road that runs from the border and extends down to Ballina except for the missing link from Ewingsdale to bangalow which currently looks like a Tonka truck heaven and will be completed sometime soon, all funded by both NSW State Govt and Federal. I don't think it is too different to most rural areas beyond any City area, including the rest of Qld in comparision to SE Qld

I think it was extended all the way down to the Nambucca River Macksville a few years ago.

Perhaps a 180° only roundabout somewhere around there would be OK
