could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood ? aka, how long is a piece of rope ;).
Just joined this forum and probably will ask a few questions on land...cruising (not to be confused by the Toyota, no offense). Have a few nautical miles under our belts but given we have d-o-g-s that will be with us a few more years we need to do a circumlocution of Aus while they are with us. Sailing is out so caravaning/tentcampers are somewhat new to us since we last tried ('82). We both like the tent trailer concept for it's abilities to go remote but the bride has issues with the head (toilet) in the night. We just returned from the Melbourne caravan show and saw a couple interesting designs, Eco-Tourer with toilet was nice, price was lunar.
So unless there is something else we can look at it looks like we'll go the caravan route with ensuite. With that tangent just how many km's would one seem to be 'reasonable' per year. Like a vehicle there are yearly averages which of course have a multitude of variables but in general would a well to reasonably cared for '07 caravan with 40K kms seem excessive?

You will find a lot of vans have done much less than that but i think just look at condition etc. A van that hasn't moved much in a year or so might be a bigger problem than one that does 5000 k a year.
Also with say 2007 models you should expect to change the tyres out even if they have good tread as you may find they could separate on long trips in warm conditions. I also would allow for a brake rebuild on that age as it probably wouldn't have been done yet

But to assist with an answer to your circumlocuted question, we have an '09 Quantum. Built by Australian Off-road in Caloundra. It's travelled around 60,000 km, anywhere we've wanted to tow it. It has a combined head/shower, single axle, pop-top and grosses at 2200 kg.
I'm guessing you might describe the price tag as lunar but one only gets what one pays for. We paid top dollar in '09 and ours is as functional and in as good condition as when we bought it, all those km ago.

Tx, we'll take a look at the Quantum. We like the get away abilities of the camper but looking at all options including a sailing circumlocution, keeping Aus on the port side.

We have had 2 CT's and SWMBO always travelled with a Porta-Loo of some sort.
If that is the main issue, you can buy anything - soft floor cheapie all the way to a top of the line hard floor - & just add the loo.
